Any American cars that might resemble a 1972 Holden Monaro? aka Nightrider car

Post by Kenshiro »

Hi. I was wondering if anyone can think of any US cars that might resemble

a 72 Holden Monaro. I'll be in the position to buy a used car soon, and I wanted

to buy something with somewhat of a Mad Max/ Road Warrior look to it. I always thought

the Nightrider Pursuit Special was kind of neat looking, and wanted something that

resembled that. The closest I've seen is a 1970 Transam. I'd want to have

a similar oversized air scoop put on, reminiscent of the Nightrider car. Other than that,

not too many, if any, extras would have to be added. I'm not looking to import a Monaro,

because that would cost too much. There are many 70s cars with similar body styles as the 72

Monaro,

but the front ends tend to be all wrong. The 70 Transam has been the closest I've seen yet, plus, they already

have front and rear spoilers, as featured on the Nightrider car.

Trans-Am??? LOL

That is way off, the car that's closest, or even has pretty much the same taillights and back end is the early '70's Pontiac LeMans.

Here's a pic of the front of a '72 LeMans, the front is not as similar as you can tell, but from the back they are almost identical.

I think the closest US car I can think of to 72 Monero, in looks anyhow, is a plymouth Volarie or Dodge Aspen, the front is Kind of close, the closest I can think of anyway. Some had special options including front and rear spoilers, i.e. the R. petty kit jobs and Roadrunners (although these were not true RR's just spoilers&stripes on a volarie body}. go ahead and tear this up if you want, my feelings won't be hurt. ha ha

Hmm.. Well OK, perhaps a 1970 Trans-Am isn't the best choice as far as

similarity to a Monaro is concerned, although it does have kind of a butch quality to it.

I wish I knew how to post pics here, but here's a link where a 70 Transam

is shown. http://www.cars-on-line.com/70.5ta1473.html

I guess I'll give up on my whim of having a Nightrider car, and just

get a muscle car that doesn't resemble something post apocalype movie.

Lastly, how do you post pics here??

Well speaking of Monaro's and Trans Ams, there is a car featured often in "Street machine Australia" magazine which is in fact a HQ Monaro just like in MM and it has been modified with a Trans Am nose cone with a firebird painted on the bonnet as well as the little air intakes on the sides of the front fenders and thelil one on top of the bonnet, it also has targa tops cut out of the roof and similar trans Am rear treatment.

After seeing this HQ Am i can kinda see what Ken is getting at kinda, this HQ Monaro with a few bits added here and there looks just like a Trans Am so i guess a Trans Am therefore could like like a HQ Monaro.

I wonder if anybody else has seen this car? rego " red hot "

I dont think the rest looks like it but i think the front of a first gen. mustang is close to a monaro. In fact the first time i saw mad max i thaught it might have been some aussie mustang, but only the front looks close.

Hell the side windows and the dimples in the sides of the car are almost exactly lik the monaros hmm wonder if an Yank had somthin to do with designing the 71 Monaro just like a Yank designed the Falcon coupes Regs

maybe a Early 72-77 (?) Mercury Capri (Ford in the UK)

The Profile is somewhat close.

But it is a small car.
