New Moive Old Cars
hello everyone long time max fan here. i was thinking if anyone had any thoughts if they ever made a mm4 would you like to see the older cars in the movie or new stuff? i my self really cant see in the open shot a neon and saturn bearing down on or hero? thank you have a great day everyone

Gotta be older cars for continuity if you're talking a sequel. As far as a remake, you could update with the new Mustang, etc. I know it sounds sacreligious, but an updated remake could work.
First, if set in Australia present day, the whole storyline works fine, especially in light of the war in Iraq and rising oil prices. Use new Falcons for the cop cars, newer bikes, etc.
If set in the US, use the same storyline, set it in the more rural areas (Texas, Oklahoma?) and use Mustangs, Crown Vics, etc. for cop cars. You could have the bad guys be little import tuner punks or Gixxer scoot jockeys.
I'd like to see a return to the classic Falcons and bikes, but it's getting harder to get ahold of them and even harder to justify integrating them into a story for a new audience. At this point, they are period correct cars from a bygone era, not futuristic looking patrol vehicles. An analogy would be a remake of Smokey and the Bandit using the same Trans Am when there have been several generations of TA's since. All the other cars would have to be the same vintage for it to make any sense, and at that point it becomes a historical drama/action flick, not something set in the present day.
There's my two cents (US).

are you loco??? all cars would have to be 1979 or below since there was oh i don't know ...a nuclear war and little to no gas. there is no reason nore any ability to make any new cars since the world is in chaos if any newer cars could possibly have ever been made it would have to be eaely 1980 at best.
and not clowing on anyone jsut statign the facts of the tiem of the moives and a nuclear war would tend to make car makres not have to resoruces or the reason to make new cars you think the mauraders would pay for a new car hell no they'd steal the car and rape the car dealers wife before killing them both.

Some newer cars would be nice, but one would have to be careful not to turn it into a "Fast & Furious" digital joke. Being a Mustang owner, I would like to see a few from the '99-04 era.
Last of the V8 Intercepts, a piece of history, would have been a shame to blow it up

Yes, I am loco, but that's a separate issue.
I understand about the nuclear war, degeneration of civilization, scarcity of manufactured goods, etc. following the timeline of the movies. In that imaginary universe, it all goes downhill from the late '70's ("A few years from now...").
But the question was referring to a sequel (MM4) and I expounded upon that.
If you read what I posted, it says if there's a SEQUEL (i.e. Mad Max 4), then I'd like to see it follow the continuity of the first three. Meaning using older cars or scavenged/modified/cannibalized vehicles.
However, if we look at the possibility of a REMAKE (i.e. Mad Max 1 redone), then that opens up the possibility of setting it in this time period, not the late '70's. Think in terms of how SWAT was redone. '70's era TV show updated to 2000's timeframe. There was no attempt to set it in the '70's.
A decent Mad Max movie would have to involve vehicles, however. If it's Hollywoodized and set in the present day, you gotta go with whatever American performance vehicles are out there. Personally, I think most newer Mustangs (excluding the '05's) blow as far as looks, etc. but you gotta go with something. I think a '96 Impala SS would be more imposing and more Interceptor worthy. Even the little Fox bodies look kinda neat, but are too small to be really mean. So I stand by my choice of '05 Mustang GT's, Crown Vics and Gixxers for the bad guys.
Take it to the next level and you wouldn't have a Mad Max 2 remake. The newer technology cars simply wouldn't survive too long. An old Cleveland you can work on yourself with minimal tools. A new 4.6 mod motor needs computers, technicians, all sorts of electronic parts and a magician to say arcane phrases over the black boxes. Tell me there would be a scene with Max bartering for a code puller so he could see why the Interceptor was surge idling... Sometimes the older, simpler ways are better.

If they were to make a MM4 the vehicles would barely be recognizable and most likely be buggy like like what Max had in blunderdome.windows would be replaced by metal screens ect.new cars?? forget about it man, they wouldn't survive in those harsh conditions and like one said already on here in Mad Max times all hell broke loose in the mid 90's?mayeb some newer cars could make it like 79-91 Crown vics,80-98 Ford trucks 72-93 dodge trucks 73-87 Chevy trucks i could goon and on but i garangoddamntee ya no sh*t like a Honda accord or geo metro aint gonna make it out there with the gawbeege.

You have a way with the English language. Its absofabutabulous!

Umm....
I believe the term is 'fanfukkintabulous'.
Or 'fanfreakintabulous' in some quarters...
All I'm sayin' is the first time somebody has to change an in-the-tank electric fuel pump or try and scrounge a performance chip way out in the middle of the desert vs. popping on a mechanical pump on the side of a Cleveland and adjusting the idle on the Holley carb, they might decide it's easier to walk or stay put somewhere. A mobile society based on current automotive technology wouldn't stay mobile for long in the event of a breakdown of civilization and loss of access to parts and high tech repair equipment.
Regarding the timeline issues, let's assume that Mad Max took place in the late '80's/early 90's. The cars would have been XD's/XE's right? But since it was filmed in the late '70's, you get slightly modified '70's era cars tarted up to look futuristic. To stay in continuity with the look, you'd have to stick with XB/XC's or chassis from that time. UNLESS you REMAKE the movie and then you can use whatever cars you want from whatever time period you decide to set your film in.
One thing to remember is that George Miller wanted to have this set so far in the future that hovercars were used, kinda like Star Wars land speeders, pod racers and speeder bikes. Budget constraints didn't allow that , so you get a 1973 XBGT with some body mods.

sometimes its good that some moviemakers dont have enough money...

what they should do if they ever make a new movie is,make it take place between the first and second movie.....you could even use a different actor but have the same premice of the story...you could even borrow a correct interceptor replica to use in the move......the plot would have max's adventires in the wasteland.....you could even make this a show or mini series on the sci-fi channel....this is thw way it should be done, now i wish someone would just do it...
