Interceptor `01 Ford Lightning Project

Post by SPlisskin »

Hope I don`t get flamed to bad about bringing this subject up. I have been a dire hard MM2 fan since I was at least 12. Before the internet exsisted I was conviced the last V8 with throwing out the options of an early 70`s Mach 1 Mustang and a early 70`s Grand Torino GT I conviced myself it was either a AMC Javelin but leaning towards the AMX. Untill I met a couple from Austalia at the time I had a Black 91 RS Camaro with a few Mods induction Hood, Fake Dual exhaust with the Flowmaster this was at the end of 92 and the couple asked me what kind of car it was and I could tell by there accents that they were from Australia and I told them what it was and thats when they told me that they had similliar cars there in Austrlia but they looked diffrent so out of years of raking my brain I finally asked about the Last V8 and they told me it was 73 Falcon and I was in shock being a yank it took me awhile to understand it but had my answer. But with work and just getting married I put it off thinking it would cost a fortune to import and replicate. So whent my first and last attempt to replicate the Last V8 was of all things a 71 Camaro well that was a complete nightmare being in my early 20 and lack of funds I got rid of it very shortly after I started it. Ever since then I`ve Had 87 GTA and it was black never washed I allways like the disstressed Falcon the best, I had quite a bid of work done to it close to 400hp dynoed and any other vehicle since then I had if I bought it was black and fast allways in mind of the Falcon. So enough of that In early 03 I bought the Lightning hell to me I was getting closer to the Falcon Superchared and all close to 450 stock but it was a truck about two weeks ago I found this site and I was totally awe struck to find such die hard fans actually replicating the Last V8 and then found the site Mad Max Cars where they can import and actually build you a replica. My heart sank right into my stomach I was wishing I had found this site then I would have definetly Had The Falcon in my garage instead of the overpriced Lightning and still would have saved atleast a few thousand dollars. Well here goes my question please try not to flame me to bad untill I get somethings straightend out I want to attempt to replicate my `01 Lightning into the Interceptor it seems to me your the guys to ask for advice and oppinions, please?? I really thought I was all alone in being a Yank in Florida but I`am really glad I ran accross this site. Fell free to post or E-mail me at mailto:[email protected] or [email protected]

First I would have to say...take a deep breath! Geez, I'm not really sure what you're trying to say. Uhm...are you trying to turn a Ford Lightning truck into a Mad Max inspired vehicle? If so, you could swap the rims for some plain black Wagon Wheels and blackout all the chrome on the grill. Then spray flat black across the bottom and hood using the BoB as a guide. You could go really radical (and not to practical) and cut off the roof and add a boat windshield, although I wouldn't do that personally.

You can't make a car a truck so I wouldn't bother with MFP logo but you could make it have an identity readily recognized as "Mad Maxian".

Cheers,

Greetings. An '01 Lightnin' you say... I agree with SOME of what Stepchild said. The "Wagonwheels/Nomads/WS9's" would look tough. If I remember right, the truck already has 295's all the way around...right? You can get custom offset "wagonwheels" from Wheels of Steel.com for $52.00 each, then paint them appliance epoxy gloss black. There's a Mach I glass hood out there too for that model year truck as well. I want to say it's around the 1 Grand mark...ready to paint and install. As far as the exhaust, I'd do the '00 Cobra R dual side exhaust tip route, or put the Lightning tips out the driver side as well, which means cutting the appropriate hole in the other side and installing the tips "upside down." One question though...Is the fuel tank on the outside of the frame rail, making installation of the dual-sided tips impossible? There's also a lot of different style lower front airdams that could be swapped out if you wanted to change the look.. The rear spoiler would have to be made, 3 pieces laid up then blended to make it look right, or maybe go a GT spoiler on the tonau cover. The lines on the lightning lends itself pretty good to the BoB paint scheme if you follow the bottom "waterline" with the pinstripe just above it. I say go for it.

Thanx for the replies. Your Right it does have 295`s , I do have a few questions. I fiwere to cut the exhaust for the tailpipes out of the other side would that mess any with the back presssure for Supercharger?? It doesnt have a Tonneaou cover sorry for the misspells. the only thing I`ve done with truck was put a hardtop on the bed with a half way decent spioler on it. I`ts one of the hartops that goes over the lip of bed. The fuel tank I beleive not 100% but I`m pretty its inside. As far as the hood theres one very similar to the Interceptor for around $500. The thing is I want it to be appeare very distrssed looking.
