Bike Questions

Post by Bubba Fat »

Hi Boss, I have some informations 4 U.

The Z 1000's used in first chapter were european versions, resp. the aussie versions were identical.

The US versions have a slightly different equipment and name. I assume that what you have in the US is the "KZ" 100o. The expression "KZ" couldn't be used in europe and some other countries, because of the jewish community. KZ was the term for "KonZentrationsl*ger", the german word for concentration camp.

If you aren't able to find a KZ 1000 A1, one good altenative is to buy a A2 (1978). The bike is nearly identical but has a different folk & brake system and it's noticeable. In that case, try to find a 77's folk and brakes (Mr. Internet is the man).

The following models ( MK2, Z 1000 J and GPZ 1100) are inaccurate and have a newer engine. Stay away from them, they are angular and ugly!

If you need some additional informations, feel free to e-mail me!
I could probably make it on my own, but I like you kids.

Thanks Bubba!

I was aware that they didn't use the KZ badge anywhere else, but now I know why.

If only Chevrolet had thought about that before they marketed the "Nova" in Mexico where "No Va" means "No Go"!

Technically, my sled is a 77 KZ 900A5 the last of the Z1's.

They used up everything they had laying around from the previous runs before they switched to the 1000's.

And yes, I think the styling of the MKII's and the J head bikes are weaker. I have seen some OK treatments of the GPZ 1100 and 900 though.

My ride has been pretty heavily modified already. I have technology from 8 differrent modern bikes on her, mostly in the suspension and unsprung weight. With a gently mesaged motor @ 104Hp I needed the stopping and handling improvments.

THe stocker Z1 had (has) oodles of Power but poor handling and braking by comparison. I ride a lot so I opted for newer tech where I could put it.

I am obviously not going for perfect movie accuracy, but rather a stablemate to Gosling-1. Perhaps what the Dark One rode when he was on 2 wheels instead of 4...

I doubt that the cross over exhausts, as seen in the movie, were a factory set up, but as you said Bozz, a common dealer mod. Anyway, the screen used ones and also all other accessories were from "La Parisienne engineering". Bertrand Cadart's (Clunk) ex shop.

The closest thing that you can find these days are from Tranzac. Unfortunately I haven't found any decent homepage to display them.
I could probably make it on my own, but I like you kids.

Yeah Bubba, I'm in the same boat.

Z Power has a set that they sell that is similar.

It is a 4 into 2 but it is split 1&4 2&3 cylinders.

I asked them about it and they said they imported it from Japan.

I don't know if that is the tranzac model or not, no brand was mentioned.

I have seen a picture of the old hooker set-up, and it also was split 1,4 and 2,3.

I found the fairing (or one close to it) at replico in OZ.

I was not aware that Clunk was part of the shop.

That's good to know for sure.

If all else fails I will make my own.

There are some good close-ups in the film to start from.

Thanks a bunch for the info and the discussion in general gang!

Thanks for the info gang.

I just thought I'd post a quick update.

The project is still going to happen this winter (barring the unforseen).

I was just at the AMA Vintage motorcycle race/swap meet at Mid-Ohio this past weekend and was inspired to really make this happen.

Thousands of bikes, and not a goose/MFP in the lot!

BTW, all of the exhausts I have been able to track down have been slightly off, but still really cool.

I will probably make my own.

Wish me luck!
