Dave ... or should I say Gorn.

Anyone who's been in a band called Buttplug is cool by me.

Although I was confused by the apparent celtic punk genre of Captains Log???

PS Bring Yoeman Rand with ya !!

Buttplug man, oh man, what a mess that band was. Just random people playing songs. Sometimes there'd be 3 people playing bass. A mess, a wonderful bad drunken mess. This song is called "FAG" because the chords are F then A then G. Repeated until they'd kill our power.

You want the girl Yeoman Rand or the guy Yeoman Rand? You keep talking about lingerie, so I'm guessing you want the transvestite. He's married, but I'll bring him as my carry-on.

Ah ... there may be something about Miriam ... but not in my world buddy (ask me again after ten or so beers ...)

It's the non-transvestite YR ... she looks more likeley to fit in your carry-on.

Believe it or not when I played in Cycle Trash ... a corny bikie punk outfit ... we had a song called DAG for precisely the same reason.

For a laugh have a look at http://www.divinerites.com/b_skj.htm this was a more serious outfit that was killed off because it all got too serious.

That's right. Sydney to Brisbane alone is 12 hours. To ride a bike around Australia would be near impossible. You'd have to carry sh*t loads of fuel. I live here and I would never attempt it in any sort of vehicle ! And that's a fact Jack !

OZ is slightly smaller than the lower 48 US states. The info I found says the coastline is about 26,000 Km (16,000 miles). I live in California and it's a dry heat usually around 38-42 degrees in the summer sometimes up to 46. The main thing I'm worried about is water logged roads that would be impossible to ride. Still researching my trip -- never been in a monsoon before. Might have to change my travel plans.

The bike will have a decent sized tour tank. It's modeled after this bike (Tartarini):

Gorn,

If you are thinking of kicking off your tour in October then the chances of running into the wet season in the top end is quite high. Some roads do get shut down to traffic. This is for very good reason. If I were you I would just consider starting your trip in Perth, then ride to Adelaide and Melbourne, catch the ferry to Tasmania, then back to Melbourne, up the coast to Sydney then on to Brisbane last. Trying to ride at that time of the year north of Brissie through to Darwin may not be a great idea.

If you do decide to do the entire loop then good luck to you......you'll have my admiration !

Go to this website: http://www.northernterritory.visitorsbu ... .html#driv and you'll see average weather conditions and driving distances. You will need to find out more about sealed roads through mid-WA across the top to the northern end of QLD.

I hope this has been of some help !

Hey Dave,

Yeah, that'd be a good plan, but I pick up the bike in Sydney. From Sydney to Sydney including Melbourne, Perth, Ayers Rock and Darwin. I've still got 4 1/2 months to figure this out. That site is really helpful. Thanks a lot for that. I've been getting some advice from some other OZ motorcyclists -- it'll work out.

I've got some addresses for car/bike museums, Mad Max stuff, and the Australian War Memorial (I'm interested in Gallipoli, Lawrence of Arabia & the North Africa fighting).

Pete, I can just show up at your work and say, "Okay, sing!" I've got about 1,500 records that I'm hoping I don't have to sell to pay for my trip, but most of the CDs can go.

Dave

The sad thing is that no one at work would bat an eyelid !!

So what's your interest in Gallipoli ... is it from the Mel film? I've just done a bunch of research for my partner as her family ledgend said that her Grandfather was at Gallipoli but ... like a lot of guys who went to war ... never spoke of it and never collected his medals. Turns out he was with the 10th Batallion at the landing on 25th April in the first wave ashore. He was later shot and repatriated to Oz. A year later he rejoined in another state ... no computer data bases then ... and served in France with the 4th Pioneers.

The producer of the film Gallipoli, Pat Lovell, is a good mate of mine and has a million anecdotes about the making of the film. And one final bit if Gallipoli trivia ... I went to the theatre last week to see a play that my girlfriend (cripes ... I'll have to get used to calling her the wife next week!!!) designed for the Perth Theate Co that's been touring the country ... and sat behind Mark Lee who was Mel's sidekick in Gallipoli.

The War Memorial is my fave museum in Australia so I'd be up for tagging along to that one.

This is a good forum/site for Gallipoli info
