Septic going to Australia

Post by Gornzilla »

I'm flying to Sydney Oct 12 from California. I'm going to ride a 1960s Ducati 250cc round the coast (probably counter clockwise from Sydney to Sydney). I'd need to visit some of the spots Mad Max was filmed.

Is there any chance anyone would want to go with me? As a tour guide or as someone curious to hang out with a 34 year old washed up punk rocker. Not sure when I'll be in Melbourne. Probably Dec or Jan.

You must have an arse of steel to attempt a circumnavigation of Oz. And why for the love of God on a 250 ... Ducati or not!!! It'sa long way.

But do look me up in Sydney ... we'll see what a 34 yo washed up punk rocker and a 47 yo washed up punk rocker have in common ... other than a few Ramones albums.

DAMN! I envy you that road trip!

I'm impressed you're doing on only a 250cc However try not to take Last V8's advice but "Stay ON the roadssss" Image Going off road on an old Duke is probably not advisable.

So what's the approximate mileage around Australia something 500 to 600 miles in total isn't it? Image

I dunno, on a map, Australia looks like it's probably just 10 miles around. Shouldn't take long. Circle it twice a day stopping to eat and all.

Pete, I'll be in Sydney Oct 14th and don't know how long it'll take with the paperwork and all that before I start. I'll put my email in my profile.

I didn't mean, follow me around the continent. Mostly when I'm in areas where it was filmed. I was wondering where they filmed Johnny the Boy blowing up, and I ran across this site. I've been here before reading about the making car, but I didn't notice it has film locations on it.

Hey Biker, the UJMs are super reliable. I've got a Yamaha SR500 that I need to sell before I leave for Oz.

I'd have a clser look at that map mate. It's more like 3500 miles around !!

Hey I just sold and SR 500.I built it as a Manx Norton clone. Sold it to finish a car project. You can get a good SR fo a couple of grand.

Gornzilla,

I'm the guy who took the recent photos of Mermaids Cave. If you need a guide for that section let me know....I'd be more than happy.

Cheers, Dave S.

Nothing but Dave on this site, eh? I'd love a tour of the movie sites. I even like Thunderdome for some reason, so Mermaids Cave would be neat to go to. My email is now in my profile (I think), so send me something so I can figure out how to contact you. I'm not sure when I'll be in Melbourne because I'm doing this by ear. December? January?

I've seen pictures of a few SR500s fancied up. They only sold them in the US 1979-81 with just the mag wheels. Nice bikes though. I really like the ones they sell in Japan with wire rims and the front drum brake. The one I own now is 79 so it's got the rear disk brake.
