Gibson on Lethal Weapon 5 and Mad Max 4
Posted on Fri, 13-Feb-2004
Mel Gibson recently sat down with Moviehole's LA Correspondent Paul Fischer to chat about "The Passion of Christ", and that entire interview will appear shortly. Meanwhile, here's an interesting snippet.
Among the topics discussed in the interview, Gibson talks about the future of the "Lethal Weapon" and "Mad Max" franchises and it doesn't sound like he'll be playing either Martin Riggs or 'Mad' Max ever again - which will especially annoy those anxiously awaiting for the recently postponed "Mad Max 4 : Fury Road".
He laughs when asked how much money he still gets offered for a new "Lethal Weapon". "Ah, good question. I'm too old and I can't deal with the action stuff anymore."
That also tends to rule out the much delayed Mad Max 4. "It's getting to the point where they'll start calling it Fat Max," but hopes, at the very least, to work again with Weir and Miller. "Those guys are masters so of course I'd love to work with them again. The trouble is, will they want me?"
Sounds like Gibson's kissed "Mad Max" bon voyage.

Sniff i was really hoping but i just dont understand he says that he's too old for action movies, but then he says that at least he would like to work with Miller again.......strange, what i would like to know was how the hell did the movie got from post production to postponed.......and without any clarification from both Gibson and Fox..........

That's a shame.
After three gianteous, untouchable masterpiece, this movie could have been the definitive movie of all the times. Or maybe, a big shame in comparison with the first three ones.
At this point, let the MAD MAX legend alone and still INTACT.

Well i also find strange that if the movie was really in pre-production it meant that Gibson was on it and interested but what happened to make him turn back on the project.......

It's not a fault of the movie. It's Mels fault. I bet the script is brilliant stuff.Quote: Originally posted by FordMercury on 14 February 2004

This is so sad to hear. I was still holding on to some hope, but I guess this is it. Directly from Mel himself. And to think, a little over a year ago, he signed on the dotted line to play Max again...and now nothing.

We don't need another hero...we've got MAD MAX

I saw Mel interview on ABC TV here in Aus last night, he was talking about his new movie & weather or not it was anti-Jew & he was asked if he felt that he had taken too big a risk & might not work in the movie business again.
His answer was that he no longer wanted to act & that we would not see him in a movie again.......

Well i do believe that Miller will still want to do the movie, i mean the guy spent like what 3/4 years writing the damn script (and it has to be a good script since he wrote it with Brendan McCarthy and i think he won the best script or screenplay for Babe), the thing is Max is Mel Gibson whether you like it or not, its like Riggs, they're both Mel Gibson......and i bet that Miller wrote the script for Mel Gibson and not other actor, and we all know what happens when you cast a different actor for a character that was already played by another actor, like hannibal......its just doesnt work.....finally there have been comments that Mel thought that the Script was trite, and then i read this on a website "Gibson, 46, began serious talks about reprising the role that made him famous 10 years ago. Intrigued by Miller's script, Gibson staged a series of readings over the summer. Things went so well, that he signed on to star".........so it was trite but he immediately sign???there's something fishy going on here......maybe the two got a discussion??
