Interceptor in Australian Muscle Car mag
Hi All.
I just picked up my issue of AMC, as normal we in Perth get it about 12-13 days after it was released.
I wrote a letter a few weeks ago to AMC answering the question they asked (text might not be 100 % correct). "Why did such a car as the Brut 33 replica get built in the USA, and not here"? In answering the question I was also pointing out some of the problems that I have with Australian road law and vehicle registrations, and as supporting info I sent a picture of the Japan replica getting busted by the Cops.
The Letter and the small Picture appear on page 45.
One of my favorite all time Race cars the "Greens Tuff" XE Falcon is featured this month, and that alone makes this a collectable mag.
Kind regards
Gordon.
Cheers

There's also a letter on page 42 by a D O'Byran from Vic in which he gives some insight into what might have happened to the 3 Persuit cars after Mad Max.
Gordon, I notice you also have a letter on page 37 as well.
Dave.

Yeah Dave spill those beans!

He was working as an apprentice in a Ford dealer in South Melbourne & his boss took him to a council storage yard in Port Melbourne where he states he saw:
"There Amoung the cars awaiting destruction where 3 XB's, all of them badly damaged to the point of being write-off's but they where 100% complete. They where painted with large blue & red stripes on them."
His boss told him they where from a film made in the local area & had been just left to the council after the filming. His job was to stip the cars of anything salvageable to be sold off by the yard prior to the cars destruction. He recalls this was about 8 months before Mad Max came out.

Hi Dave.
I am concerned about that letter from D-O'Bryan, I have seen pictures (perhaps so have you guys) taken at the salvage yard clearing showing Big Bopper and March Hare stacked one on top of the other.
But I have never before heard that Max's yellow car was destroyed, in fact in the process of filming we know that it was not.
D-O'Bryan also refers to three XB falcons when March Hare was an XA. Given that (in his own words) he was trying to clear up what happened to these cars, attention to detail and the answer with confirmation to the biggest question still outstanding (Max's yellow car) should have been paramount in the statement.
I might sound like I am putting this guy down, I am not.... in fact were all want to chat to this guy,
He might well have no knowledge of the Max cult that we all are, and the level of interest in the cars that we all have. So his statement might very easily have been general in nature.
The chance to clarify a few points would be great.
REGARDS MY OTHER LETTER:
Yea, I thought that Larry Perkins was Cool the way he drove that Torana V8 race car flat out in empty and the more outback areas. Larry in admitting to that has come way up in my estimation of him...... Way to go Larry..
Regards
Gordon.
Cheers

GORDON. where did you see the pics of the two PURSUIT wrecks stacked ontop of each other? I'd love to se it.
Plus, you can't really put a guy down (not that i'm saying your doing this) by not telling the diff between an XA and an XB. sh*t it was only about 5 years ago that i knew what to look for (Indicator lights on COUPE's and Front lights on SEDAN's) and my dad owned tons of them when i was a kid. so maybe he was just generalising ya know.

Gordon,
Yeah, I was very surprised to see him list 3 writen-off XB's, Unless the stuntmen where allowed to go crazy with the car after filming. Or could there have been a 4th that was writen off prior to filming & was never used. I was thinking of writing to AMC asking this guy to come onto the board here for a chat.
Rock,
I'm also guessing that the front of March Hare was probably damaged to the point it could be mistaken for an XB at first glance.
Dave.
