"I HAVE SEEN THE STYLE BEFORE, ITS TERMINAL PSYCHOTIC"

They act unpredictable. Nighrider drives pursuit special after he wastes rookie, he is manic condition. When Max beats him, he begins to collapse. " its all over.."

Phychopaths mood changes rapidly. Also Toecutter, seems to be friendly a while and merciless next..

Those are features of pcychopath. I think Miller wanted to put those on film in MM1, because he is doctor. He knows how they may act. Those features gives a lot of effective of acting of Toecutter and Nightrider (and hole gang). When Toecutter arrives to town, and takes his helmet off, you can see instantly, what evil he is capacle. IMDB somebody said, that "Sergio Leone would be proud of the scene, where Toecutter gangs arrives to town" You now those "spagettiwesterns".

Vekku: I've seen another poster suggest that Nightrider was a manic\depressive; I always thought that he felt he was hot s**t until he realized who was on his tail in the yellow Interceptor. Toecutter, while capable of cruelty and violence, could still be civil, such as his treatment of the stationmaster. Ironbar could also be vicious, if required, but otherwise could be easygoing and normal. I believe Wez was a true psychopath, absolutely giving in to his violent tendencies without a second thought.

NightRider showed signs of being "Bipolar".

Mood swings for these poeple can vary drastically. They can be on top of the mountain emotionally one minute and ready to cry from depression the next. Medication is the answer. Proper diagnosis and controlled medication that is taken at regular intervals can make bipolar people as normal as anyone.

This is common during incarceration stints. Temporary inmates loose the regulation of their medication...and get back on the emotional rollercoaster. In NightRiders case it was his last ride.

my father had been diagnosed with 'bipolar' and though he wasn't exactly stealing cop cars, and trying to run down toddlers, your description is right ANKLE, on top of the world one second, and the deepest darkest hole the next..

It's amazes me how many people study the likes of law and medicine, who end up in story telling roles.

I think it has a lot to do with their grasping of the language. And being able to construct an argument.

Some of those successful on Australian TV/cinema who have impressive qualifications:

Dr George Miller

Rob Sitche - i think he's a medical doctor

Shaun Micallef - lawyer

Libby Gore - lawyer

Steve Vizard - lawyer

Peter Burner from backburner - lawyer

Just to name a few.

Most of the villanous characters struck me as being very textbook schizotypal or flat-out psychopathic. the mark of a true psychopath includes the megolomaniacal tendencies, the high/low behavior (because bi-polar couples up with a great many psychiatric disorders), the conviction that one is "greater" than everyone else, and in the case of the sociopath (slightly different than psychopath) who can act charming and social, the psychopath cannot inherently make emoitonal connections whatsoever. Thus, "psycho path" means something like "frozen feelings" in latin. Very scary.

Frozen feelings, Toecutter gang has really.

MM1 is very effective, because nowdays they dont do movies like that. Scene where Max family was killed, its very crude and effective.

MM3, there is lots of "MTV-style" and also "Hollywood" nobody gets killed and everybody must feel nice. MM1 and MM2 where too "dark" and negative for larger audience, so make film what evebody likes. Make it politically correct Image and so we make more money.
