Dobros Mad Max Gauge

Post by MFP1 »

I know they can be hard to find. I have a line on having them remade, possibly with fuel gauge internls so they can be "functional", and wired into your car. Unfortunately, info is as hard to come by at the gauge itself, so I need to get pics of an original gauge from many angles (front, side, angles, back). I also need detailed specs (deminsions, materials specs) on the guage.

Definately having one original to copy would be best, but I am sure if anyone here had one they wouldent want to "loan" it out. Cant believe that junk shops or somthing dont have them.

Help!! It would be worth one of the completed gauges to me to get the info, and/or an original gauge to copy.

I was able to hold an original Dobros Gauge in my hand in Dearborn. Much larger than I thought.

WOW, lucky man!!! I have only seen pics. O.K. Ankle, Ill bite, who was at dearborn that had a real life doboros gauge, but had not installed it in their replica??? I cant even find one to put in my replica, much less one to have as a spare. I am resorting to the project you see outlined above, so that everyone else like me can get a "Real" dobros gauge. I would complete the project at this point even if I had one for myself. I sure would like to get pics of one, but having an original to copy from would definately be prefreable, as I can personally be certian that EVERY DETAIL is correct, after all, whats the use if its not EXACT?

Wonder if the original car in COTS still has its Gauge?

yeah, its a good thing I didn't permanently instal the 'Booby trap' under the car or I would still be waiting to get out of jail.It looks good under there, but I don't show it to just anybody, only die-hard Max nuts.the only reason I built it was because I had five people, including one female, get down on the ground and look for it(even though it was from the second movie).Bill

Any of you guys Strap a Machete under your REPLICA's yet?

I tell you what, thats the first thing i did when i got my first car (not a machete, mind you, just a divers knife, cause it came with belt straps, not velcro, so i could tie it on tight right next to my suspension springs), mind you after a year of having the car, when it came time to take the knife off, it was so deeply enground with mud, i couldn't pull the knife out of its scabbard. Yes it was Bill's Dobros Gauge. To hear of its rarity, and to know its one of the last five or so in exisitance, made me proud.

That must have been totally cool. The real bummer is, that there are probably several hundred "still in existance", its just that they are all in service in a cannery/(dog or preson)food factory, in the hands of collectors like us, Buried in a landfill,

OR, and this is what I wish I were close enough to look into) sitting on the dusty back shelf of former dobros Wholesalers, lying on a table in a junk/sirplus shop or, on a spare parts shelf in a maintence area of a cannery/(dog or preson)food factory. So for all you guys down in OZ, there is a veritable goldmine of those gauges scattred around the country for the one who is clever enough to dig it up........................that is not to say that many have not tryed, I just think mobody has looked in the right place (shoot me if im worng)
