I saw a very nice Cortina Mk III in this month's Practical Classics magazine:
Ford Cortina Mk III
1973 (M reg), auto, 1600cc, Daytona Yellow. excellent condtion, one owner, garaged, FSH, 47,250 miles, UKP1500 ono.
It looks great from the photo! I would be very tempted to leave this one standard, as a tribute to all those fallen 1970s British saloons, and to make some money from it as a 'film car'.
I think that I would look for one that is in less good condition to use as a base for a replica. I would feel guilty chopping up an excellent example!

Your right there Dog, can't remember the last time i saw one, i imagine the majority have been snapped up for restoration and you wouldn't wanna start chopping one of those up.
More to the point, you wouldn't wanna pay ££££££ for a resto and then start chopping it up either.

OK, here are a couple of pictures of Andy's Cortina, thanks to him for allowing me to post them here

That Corty looks great. It is almost the same as the one that i mentioned!
I think you would have to find the middle ground condtion wise. A car that is 'average' in every way, but solid and not in need of a ground up restoration. They can still be found, although you have to get in before the banger racers snap them up.
A friend's father bought a beige 1974 2000E in that sort of condtion from a deceased person's estate in 1992. A quick respray saw it looking almost new! He still owns it...
