PAPPAGALLO'S DRIVING.

Post by rockatansky4073 »

This can probably only mainly be seen in the WIDESCREEN version, but check out the shot of MAX taking off out of the compound, just after HUMUNGUS loads his magnum.

Now PAPAGALLO's driving the LONEWOLF MACHINE, which is an automatic, so how come he's sitting there, jolting away, waiting for the truck to go first, look real close at him, the cars like hopping as if hes attempting to hold it with his clutch and do a hill start, without using his break. Now i've driven an automatic and i know a hill start in an automatic is way easier than a manual. The car catches it in time when you take your foot off the brake, for you not to roll back at all.(In my manual, i hold it with the clutch, i don't use my brake its just easier), But whats up with PAPPA's start?

Perhaps the front engine was mated to an automatic and the rear engine is mated to a manual.

My Dad built a 'Hoover' tractor 50 years ago that had both manual and automatic transmissions tied together. Pappagallo could have been "launching" from the engine that had the manual.

Here's my go at it... was the camera and cameraman in the way of him driving past? Besides, there's only enough room for one vehicle to go throught the compound entrance at a time, and he was probably just anxious to make the run.

(Or he was doing his impression of the Chevy Monte Carlo commercial... Oh, O oh oh...)

I've noticed that too. Maybe it's meant to be like that. Auto boxes are very complex pieces of kit. They have to be treated quite carefully and that one blatantly wasn't, as it was in some custom vehicle that hadn't been maintained too well. Maybe the torque converter was f**ked? Also, if the idle speed of the engine was set high, then the "creep" that you get from an auto would be quite conciderable and the brakes would need to be applied just to stop it racing off, giving a very jerky start. I've actually seen that happen as well. A two litre monteg with it's tickover ste to just under 1000RPM can go along at about 35mph just on the creep from it's auto box!!!

either that, or he's a terrible driver :-)

I saw a VW Golf 4X4 conversion that had the same arrangement with a manual transmission for the front engine and an automatic in the rear. They were intending to put a manual in the rear, but using the auto simplified things. The guy said that the car tended to creep though...
If your engine doesn't blow, it sucks.
