MM2/RW Voiceover Inside Joke?

Has anyone else ever notcied in the voiceover/monologue in the beginning of Mad Max 2/Road Warrior when we see scenes from Mad Max 1 and the Australian narrator says words to the effect of "In this maelstrom of decay...", there is a quick shot of Max/Mel's face right on cue in the first syllable of "maelstrom" as if MEL strom. I think it may have been an editing inside joke to have such a closeup of his face right on this first syllable. Anyone else catch this? Regards, Steve
