Silverton Replica on TV

Post by XAMan »

Last night I was channel surfing around dinner time as my girlfriend was off at yoga and my 12 1/2 yo son and I were having a 'blokey night' together ... take-away indian food and telly ... ok a couple of beers for me ... when what should I see but an interceptor outside the Silverton pub!

The show was 'Getaway' ... where you get to vicariously be part of a holiday that you can neither afford nor have time off for ... and Ernie Dingo was doing Broken Hill / Silverton. An interview of the barmaid about the attitude of locals to film crews ... max and 'A town like Alice' were mentioned.

Well blow me down and butter me on both sides if Ernie doesn't ask the barmaid for the interceptor keys and she obliges! Many of you may have seen the car at BTM but for those who didn't it appears to be an XC Falcon 500 coupe with no nosecone, some sort of fake blower ... switch on gearshift, the end pieces of a cobra spoiler, no boot lid, truncated tanks in the boot ... no doubt cut to retain the rear screen and zoomies that seemed operational.

It's a pretty half-arsed replica that no doubt fools most punters ... near enough for rock and roll.

Ernie then trotted off to the museum housing the interceptor wreck, the snake f100 and a buggy. All in all he gave it a big wrap ... the more members of the public who get to these places will be the only hope of them staying open.

Good to see some publicity for MM pilgrimages or just a stop over on a longer trip ... the conspiracy theorist might suggest that it's all part of the KM machine ramping up interest in the trilogy as pre publicity for #4 ... le's hope for more.

'blokey night' with INDIAN FOOD? FISH AND CHIPS are the only way to go on blokey night with the kids (even if my three kids does include one daughter).

Sadly no ... it was all happening before I realised and it gets a bit hard running a vcr whilst juggling a tandori cutlet and a garlic naan.

And ... for the record ... indian was his choice ...

I've got a mate at 7 and will see if a copy is obtainable ... maybe another member taped it?

A good 'blokey night' requires that the 'pooting' butt quotient be maintained. I'd go with Tandoori over fish and chips anytime. Nothing quite like 'inter-generational' farting to bond father and son.

farting? if you got a piece of flake from MY corner shop, you'll see no amount of indian chow could beat the farts they produce.

Yes, its a great attraction to have at the Hotel, it gets a great deal of interest even from those of us who are not as much into max as we are. with all of the history of the hotel and the pics inside the pub of the filming of MM2, it is a fitting place to be on display

XA Man, your right, a XC fairmont V8 and yes the zoomies are hooked up, the blower is also a fake set up and with the switch on the gearstick the pulley can be turned on, I do have a couple of pics of it from a distance I can send through.

I had the pleasure of staying at the Silverton Pub last year round Easter. The car belongs to the publicans, Chris & Jo. It is a budget special and it is surprising just how many people ask if its the real McCoy!! Yes, the zoomies are functional and the sound is positively awesome! Not a bad way for the kids to get to school, huh?

Rockatansky LOL. I remember the same thing in grade school, except my dad dropped me off on Monday mornings in his 77 International Transtar semi-rig. All the little kids came over to the fence to see it. Of course he had to blow the horn...although they still picked on me at lunch...
