"As long as the paperwork's clean, you boys can do what you like to that GT out there..."

Nah, I wasn't referring to the GT crisis. They're still civil enough over there. I was thinking about the Godzilla fans and some of the toy collectors. Snippety little beeyotches, some of them...

If you get the 6 cyl. from Phil, nobody's gonna miss it in it's present incarnation. Look at the ID plates and yawn. But to cut into a perfectly good JG66 coded GT is unnecessary. Hell, I had qualms about modifying a Goss. If it wasn't so cheap and ratty, I wouldn't consider it. Hurry up and buy the Falcon so you can join the fun! Have you been on the Yahoo forum long? Don't worry, nobody will spit or kick too hard... Dearborn will be the true test.

So, what kind of car did the Cavity Creeps drive? That would be a good commercial. Crest with MFP in pursuit of the Cavity Creeps in a rusty yellow and brown Monaro.

Mitch: It's pretty much a done deal on the Fairmont. I've already signed the contract, and we're STILL trying to get one of the cards to go through (only after a week of trying). I think it's on the coast, getting ready to ship as we speak/type.

I would like to do the mods I've talked about before, but the backlash is making me wary of the whole "originality" group. I've dealt with that kind in the Society of Creative Anachronism before (SCA - a medieval re-creationist group). You have authenticity mavens vs. the fun mavens. I'm sorry, but if you want authenticity in it's 100% pure format, go burglarize a museum, otherwise leave me alone.

Nobody bitches at the guy who takes a 34 Ford coupe, or a 49 Merc, or a 50 shoebox and makes it into a streetrod...why all the fuss over this?

A pure, original, untouched XBGT like the one Phil just sold to the guy in Virginia(?) for $19,000, personally there's no way I'd touch that. That's why I'm getting the Fairmont...try to fly under the radar of the fanatical gearheads. As far as your Goss-ling, maybe restore it as close to original, but give it some personal flare. I thought about paint schemes for that as well. Maybe the body in yellow, the bonnet in dark blue with red and white pinstripes...just an idea...still keep the Goss look, but add the Max look as well.

I got "interviewed" by the Falcon group and was accepted "two days ago." I just hope I know what I'm getting into...

Do you have the specs for putting the widest tire/rim package under the rear? Like 15x10 with a 8" punkin' and drums? I need to know the offset, backspacing, bolt pattern and max tire width.

Not true...drop by the AACA message boards and read what they have to say about street rods. Not nice. Image

I learned long ago to build the car I want, not what the teeming mass of so-called experts want me to drive. Original has it's place, and I hate to see a good, unmolested car get irretrevably altered, but a rough around the edges anything is ripe to turn it into whatever you want. That said, I'd be happy with darn near any Falcon XB/XC with a 351C. Image Wouldn't have to be a replica to make me smile.

I guess I'm just saying that a pure, original extant like the Black Onyx XBGT should NOT be touched in any way...if that's the car in dispute. Hell, it's only 1 of 3...out of 949 total.

I went to Autorama here in Detroit last weekend where there were more customs/modified cars than original. There were some awesome cars there that cost $800,000 US to build going after the Riddler Award, down to the "tuna" cars with all their little blinking lights and go-fast stickers. Personally, I'd rather go to Autorama than the North American International Autoshow. Factory concepts are cool, and seeing some of the stuff you worked on 5 yrs ago finally get into production is nice, but I'd rather see the ingenious ways somebody restored/modified their ride. To me, it's all about personal expression. I like to see how someone spent their money and time, shedding their blood, sweat and tears to make something unique.

The first time I saw the Black on Black, I instantly fell in love with it. I never knew I'd actually be driving one of them 15 yrs later. The only way until recently I ever saw a Falcon was AS THE Black. I guess if I listen to these authenticity mavens, It will be like back in grade school where the bully tells you what to do. I'm going to build it the way I want, if you don't like it, buy me what you think I aught to have...or "just walk away."

Their ride isn't totally original anyway...they put new rubber on it, changed the oil, put new plugs/wires on, changed the wiper blades, put new oil/filters in/on, put new coolant in it etc...etc...
