Building a Non-replica
I'm going to make an attempt to convert a '68 Chevy Nova (Left hand Drive) into a quasi-Interceptor. Basically I'm going to take all the mods from the Falcon Interceptor and incorporate them in the Nova (except the side flutes, there isn't room behind the doors). If anyone has suggestions of any kind, e.g. to make the car seem more like an Interceptor than a Nova, or tricks on doing the work, or opinions and comments, I would appreciate the feedback. I have a pretty good list of parts sources, but I could always use more.
Thanks

Look on the Yahoo Groups under Apocalyptic Custom Cars, madmaxcars, australian ford falcon club, etc. There is quite a bit of discussion concerning American versions of Mad Max cars. Before I got the Falcon; before you COULD get a Falcon over here, I was planning on how to do an Interceptor using an American vehicle. I went with a '73 Mach 1, and it came out pretty good. Definitely has the look and flavor.
Other candidates for a Black are: '70 Torino Fastback, '71-'73 Torino Sportsroof, Montego GT (not the MX), '70 Javelin, '71-'74 AMX/Javelin, some others...
For a Yellow, look at a '72 Ford Maverick sedan or a similar era Hornet sedan. The 2-door Hornet hatchback would make an interesting Black...
The Nova is a contender, but the rear side windows don't look right. Plus, a Nova is SO common and passe'. If you go with something a little more exotic or less well known, people will wonder a little bit more. But if you have a Nova, go for it! Krylon Semi Flat Black works wonders! Add some American Racing 8-spoke steel wagon wheels and you're set.

I NEVER see Novas anymore, and I go to Chevy related car shows several times a year in Illinois. The cars without full frames are harder and harder to find, so I think a Nova is a good choice.
You could even remove the trunk lid and mount a couple of big fuel tanks back there and tie your spare tire to the roof.

Batmax, I guess... Maybe it's a regional or generational thing. Around here, Novas used to be a dime a dozen. When I was growing up back in the '70's and into the early-mid '80's, Novas were a common ride for the less cultured members of society. We used to joke about the white trash icon of a double wide trailer and a Nova in the front yard on cinder blocks. Maybe that's why there aren't as many around anymore. Now it's the Grand Ams and Cavaliers. And Escorts and ZX-2's...
Maybe that's just me, here in Missouri, approaching middle age. Like I said, if you have a Nova, DO it. I'd like to see pictures!
Did you check out the Yahoo groups?

I've driven both the Nova and the Javelin, and I have to say, that the Javelin is a much better handling car, and (IMO) quite a bit prettier
Also, the body design is a bit more conducive to interceptorizing..
Which reminds me, anyone have any idea where I could find XB Side flutes in the States?
Cut & Pasted together a bit of a Javelin Interceptor picture...
The flutes look really nice on the Jav.

FX,
Terry at madmaxcars (see the links) just got in a shipment including some good and some not so good, but repairable side flutes. Contact him via his website or look for him on the yahoo groups. He just posted the list of incoming items tonight.
Have you looked into getting rid of the coke bottle bulges on the front of the Javelin? The rear ones are almost justified/correct, but that front needs something done to it. Too bad you couldn't just graft on a Mach 1 front clip.
Now I wanna go look for an AMX... Damn you, man!

If you are going to be patrolling in the wasteland you need some ground clearance. Your girlie little plastic ground effects won't last long if you lower your car to 2 inches off the ground.
