How many Wretched do live in the Citadel? They look like thousands.
Are they all real extra actors, or Miller and the team did multiply them via CGI? I'm curious about it. Especially on the long shots, when Immortan Joe watches upon them...
By the way, in-universe, how do they ever manage to survive in the Citadel? It seems to me a bit far-fetched. They got no food, no water, no medicines, no resources. It's not Bartertown.

Re: The Wretched
I'm sure there's a bit of cannibalism involved.
Re: The Wretched
I guess it is one of those things like "how does anyone not affiliated with the Citadel/Gastown still have fuel to run their cars"?
We just let it slide for the sake of the story.

Re: The Wretched
I work in agriculture and food production. In short it's not possible to feed that amount of people. It's one thing every post apocalyptic, sci-fi, fantasy etc film always gets wrong. When you see film hackers punching in a few lines and getting into a government database, that would be how I would describe the food production in Fury Road and Thunderdome.
For the setting to properly work you would need a fourth base. The Nitro-plant for producing fertiliser to grow the crops and sustain soil quality. The logistics and complications of producing fertiliser aren't possible since they rely so much on worldwide shipping, freight transport, trade deals and the enormous amount of resources involved. That's just the fertiliser end, you also need to worry about PH levels in the soil, sprays, fungicides, seed varieties, diseases etc
I could write pages about the difficulties of food production in an apocalypse so it's best just to suspend your disbelief and enjoy the story. Fury Road leaned a little to heavily into the wasteland setting to the point many here have said where can the story go now.

That said, I got your points. It seems to me that the Bartertown people is only a fraction of the Wretched.
Still wondering if they did multiply the number of the Wretched via CGI. How many extras? That's quite impressive.

I mean, this is all very true - but I don't think Joe genuinely cares about feeding those people. He just wants to give them enough that they stay around and bask in his glory, compared to the giant death storms and spikey raiding parties outside. His primary focus in terms of the society he's building are the War Boys - but, it's a dead-end system. It's all, ultimately, a dead-end system because the Wretched are a resource he can pull worship and possible War Boys or Milkers or whatever else - but eventually, they're going to die.AquaCola wrote: ↑Thu Feb 15, 2024 8:12 am I work in agriculture and food production. It's basically the most reduced, essential form of Capitalism you can imagine - because, as Keays-Byrne said when asked, Joe basically just figures that if they can keep doing what they were doing before, keep warring, keep moving, keep killing and so on, then his legacy will be assured, and eventually they might get somewhere.
