Right, so I finished this book yesterday and I can't say that I'm a big fan.

This book is literally - and I mean it 'literally' - a collection of quotes strung together, chopped and rearranged to guide the reader through the process of Fury Road's creation.
And that's it.

EDIT:
I was a bit too harsh on the book right after reading it so I decided to re-write my review.

I get the feeling that the amount of information and access to high profile folks could've been utilized much better in a much more compelling format. This book would've been a gem in the hands of someone who's passionate about the subject, potentially infecting the reader with the same passion.

But instead this book reads like a transcript of a Fury Road documentary that doesn't have a narrator.

And yes, I'm judging this book harshly because I finished reading Melvin's book about Mad Max and that one is the complete opposite of Buchanan's book. It oozes passion, it takes you on a journey, it fills you in with information, debunks stuff, it paints a picture and it puts you in that time frame. Helps you understand how that film was made on a much deeper level in a much more accessible way than. And that's what all Mad Max films deserve to be honest.

Thats unfortunate. I saw it was released as an Audiobook which would be fatiguing to listen to. I'll pick it up someday.

Hello there. What kind of information do we have on the tv series? In the 90's, I was very intrigued by the concept of a Mad Max tvseries. Thanks

They didn't mention anything about the original attempt at making a TV series from the 80's with Jon Blake as Max.

What the book says about the 95 version of the TV series is that it was Warner Bros TV idea to make some money off the franchise. They even wanted to make toys distributed by Toys R Us. George Miller agreed because he was captivated by 24 hours of storytelling he could do with this show in a year, WB thought it's easy money.
Eric Blackeney was brought into the fold to write the TV series since he was a pretty well known showrunner from Hollywood at the time but they quickly realized the show would be extremely censored for TV and it wouldn't work. Brendan McCarthy was brought in at the same time to discuss CG elements for the show like backgrounds and stuff but he didn't like the idea of the TV show either and pitched them the rudimantary idea for Fury Road.
The TV guys tried to convince Miller with a set of prototype Mad Max TV series toys but George said he wouldn't be doing a TV show anymore, he wanted to make a movie instead. And that was pretty much it about the TV show from the 90s.

Thank you very much Taipan. It's interesting to think about a Mad Max tv series nowadays. Not a la Xena, but with more budget. A series of, say, 8 episodes. 8 hours in the Mad Max universe, it could be a fascinating experience.

I didn't know this!

Such a big tragedy.

Why this? They could have gone the Thunderdome path in terms of violence.

They tried. The show shifted focus to show vehicluar action but it was missing the good parts - you know, people driving those cars getting obliterated. It's just part of Mad Max, you can't have just cars smashing into each other and that's it. And even that had to be tamed because the show would be aired alongside other vanilla action TV series (WB basically looked at all the franchises they had and tried to figure out which ones would be good for action TV series like Xena). George just didn't want to create a neutered version of Mad Max and saw Fury Road as an opportunity to do it proper and the rest is history.

It's not a formula. There's no formula. For Thunderdome, it worked in a fine, beautiful way. Lots of kinetic energy and terrific visuals, during the chase scene.

That said, I'm still curious about this TV series. Who knows...
