"UNDERSTEER" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"OVERSTEER" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"HORSEPOWER" is how fast you hit the fence.
"TORQUE" is how far you take the fence with you.

I guess that the book will reveal more about the Mel GIbson version of Fury Road, too.

Nobody reading this yet? Book has been great so far. Detailing the Mad Max TV show and tie in toys to a writer getting fired from Fury Road because he couldn't stand Brendan. I'm on the Mel chapter now.

Pray hes out there!!

Oh maybe that's why? I didn't know it had only been released in one territory.
Fascinating read. I've made it to Part 2 that begins with the 2012 shoot.

I've read more of a hundred pages and, to be honest, I'm a little disappointed so far. The book is mostly a succession of quotes from different individuals involved in the making of Fury Road interviewed by the author of the book over the years. Problem is that it's uncritical (which is intentional) hence everything is taken as face value (in other words, the author conveniently assumes that the interviewees are always telling the truth/the whole story including Miller). Also, there's a lot of quotes that you can find elsewhere recycled by the author himself. Of course, this isn't a scholar but I find this format a little tiresome. Now, the true strength of the book is that you will sometimes learn stuff from anecdotes here and there (that you won't find elsewhere). In other words, the book is excellent if you're new to the franchise. Otherwise, you might not be impressed to say the least.

I've yet to read it but I was afraid this book would be exactly as you describe it. Having just finished seriz's Mad Max 1 book - he approached it from a critical angle, showing different conflicts, debunking myths, showing the cultural background that led to the creation of the film, what happened after it was released, the critical reception, what went wrong, what went right, etc. In short it was a thorough exploration of the subject, not regurgitating quotes.Mad Serge wrote: ↑Sat Feb 26, 2022 10:13 pm I've read more of a hundred pages and, to be honest, I'm a little disappointed so far. I heard that this book dives into some kind of revelations but honestly we all knew that there was a conflict between Charlize and Tom, that's nothing new unless they touch upon the topic of restraining orders and how Charlize threatened to leave the film. Do they talk about the vehicles used and what happened to them? And if someone read the whole thing - plz let me know if Greg Van Borssum is interviewed in it because I found his account the most fascinating but also the most heartbreaking. The story of Fury Road is not complete without his input. I suspected for a long time that this book migh come across as diplomatic simply due to the amount of high profile ppl that were interviewed and also that it's still a relatively fresh subject - something that the previous instalments are not bothered with so the books dealing with them are much more colorful.

Re: Fury Road book being released this month
I have this but haven't started it yet.
However I was browsing it at lunchtime today and there was certainly new material for me: further detail as to exactly why the Mel Gibson Fury Road collapsed.
Basically, with Mel's fee included, not to mention the 2003 Iraq War, the budget was rising and rising, and 20th Century-Fox balked.
That's from Hutch Parker himself, the 20th C-F exec who was in charge of Fury Road and who was quoted way back in Dec '02 when the project was announced.
I'm happy with the book.

Nothing new at all, indeed. They (Tom and Charlize) even talked about that VERY deeply on an long article, and they apologized to each other in a kind and believable way.
