Well, somebody was on the ball and found another. Good job V8. Now all you have to do is buy it (and send it to me) Hee Hee. People have been asking for a humungus replica mask for a long time, I think it's about time somebody took the initiative ( and twenty bucks) and gave the people what they want. If I had one I could make a pretty good mold of it and then go from there.

Punisher, I have the twenty bucks but I don't want to buy a mask, I'm interested in the badge and the shoulder caps that I requested from you. What happen mate?

Well, I tried to get it, but was outbid. Image

Did one of you all get it? If I can't have it, it would be nice to know that it at least went to a fan and not some sports junkie. oh, well.

What did happen? I had a few orders from people that never sent their money and since I didn't have enough materials to go around, I just blocked them from my mind and went on a first come, first serve basis. Why haven't you emailed me about it since?

Now that the news of MM4 is getting around, I'm getting some orders and I'll probably start making the goods again. I prefer making something and just being done with it, this whole pouring resin into molds and spending butt loads of time on each piece is for the birds! That kind of stuff is better done by machines. Now I know why NOBODY wants to do this stuff. I've got my eye on some supposedly better molding material made from two-part silicone. The stuff's like liquid gold, though, and I don't have the money to invest just yet. Looks to me like I'll be spending butt loads of time on these badges again! Send me an email, v8, and I'll try to ease this problem.

Punisher, are you using GI-1000 for your mold material? It's good all-round stuff, and not too expensive if you do a lot of molding/casting. 36xxx Casting resin is ok, and pretty cheap too. It's what we use for small scale production of prototypes and other pieces we need a lot of. We get our stuff from Vagabond and TMR direct.

I forget the name of the sight, but one time when I was searching for information on the late Philadelphia Fleyer goaltender Pele Lindberg, I landed on a sight that ships out plenty of vintage hockey masks including the one the Humunges wears, I believe it was close to 200 dollars. To avoid confusion Pele Lindberg never wore this mask but that sight had a wide variety of masks, getting a leather neck brace is a whole other story.

I am using, believe it or not, Urethane roofing compound for my rubber molds. I make the clay master then slather on a few layers of that thick, brown gunk which eventually dries and becomes extremely strong. Unfortunately, the main mold I use, the jacket badge mold, is riddled with tiny bubble holes which I have to spend mucho time filling in with clay before each badge. All in all, it can take an hour or so for one badge! I got so fed up that I don't even like thinking about it. This new silicone stuff is made by a company called Alumilite and they also sell casting resins. I don't have the money for that either, so I'll stick with the polyester resin I've been using. You can visit their website and take a look at it. they don't have a price listing page, so you have to write them and they send you the whole shebang. I've written down the prices for the stuff I was interested in.

Hey Mitch, think you could part with a few ounces of your molding material? If I had a good mold it might actually be fun again!

Yeah, lemee see what I can do. E-mail me your address and I'll try to ship you some. I'll also send some info on the products. It's pretty much a standard material wherever I've worked, 'cause it does most things adequately and cheaply. Only in special cases have we had to resort to a different mold material. We also use a pressure pot to de-air the material, but if you're careful, you can minimize air bubbles in the mold without it.

It sure does make mold making and casting SO much easier and fun. Like I said, e-mail me and we can talk at length about molding/casting techniques and not bore these poor people to death...
