I can't believe it. 24 years of internet fandom or so, and we never investigated on the real nature of the Mad Max 2 prologue footage.
Wondering if they will manage to improve its quality (and HOW) once they will transfer the movie on 4K/UHD.

Re: Was the MM2 prologue "shot" on 35mm?
It's been researched.
The prologue is a combination of archive footage/news reel shot in 4:3, not on 35mm. It's mixed with leftover footage from Mad Max cropped down to 4:3. The archive footage was re-used in a TV series called The Dismissal also directed by George Miller, check out the first episode.
The entire sequence was inspired by newsreels playing at cinemas.

4:3 doesn't necessarily mean it hasn't been shot on 35mm or at least 16mm. It's just the aspect ratio.Taipan wrote: ↑Sat Dec 19, 2020 11:26 am It's been researched.

Surely, the footage culled from "Mad Max" has been edited from 35mm film.

All the "footage" come from Cinesound Movietone. I spent hours in their archives to find as much as I could from the MM2 footage
