Do you guys know if there's going to be a digital UHD 4k edition of this?
I've done away with physical formats.

NOT AN ERROR:
From a user at the blu-ray.com forum:
"Sorry to bring this up, but the australian mono is still messed up. The only thing that has been fixed is the missing line from Johnny the boy at the end. Otherwise this sounds very much as muffled as the 5.1 mix and all the other missing audio bits are still missing (Footsteps while running to jessie, dropped gun, falling against the car door after crawling back to the car , the flapping wings of the eagle, etc.)
Fun fact: the us-dub has all the sound effects in there. Just like the mgm-disc. Hooray?"
ANSWER: the real, original aussie mono audio (produced in 1979) has no ADDED SOUND EFFECTS.

Another observation:
"One bit of concern though. It's completely obvious, at least with my copy, that there are a few dropped frames at the 5:04/5:05 mark. Not completely sure if this is an inherent issue with the film. I have the MGM blu, but I'm just to lazy to throw it in and find out."

Without even checking, I know what scene the reviewer is talking about. Roop telling Charlie "For Christ's sake, shove over", then Charlie replying with "You're blaspheming again". Just then, there are a few frames missing as Charlie is scooting over to the passenger side. As far as I know, this frame gap has always been there. I just assumed that some frames of the original negative were lost during filming or in post.Uncle Entity wrote: ↑Wed Dec 02, 2020 5:08 am Another observation:

Hell yes. I checked the Italian VHS, and it's consistent with what you say.biolumen wrote: ↑Wed Dec 02, 2020 2:02 pmWithout even checking, I know what scene the reviewer is talking about. The dropped frames always have been there, it's part of the negative, from day one on release.
As for the foley sound effects, they are consistent over the original australian track in mono and all original dubs: american, french, german, italian, spanish etc.
There's no difference between the original australian dub and the american dub, apart from the voices and the EQ. All the music and sound effects (ie the Music & Effects tracks) are the same.
The 4K release has the original AU mono mix.

Another guy on blu-ray.com forum:
"I don't know what's "original" and what's not, but it seems to me that the Australian mono on the 4K is the same track that was on the US DVD from MGM. It's missing the sound effects when Max is staggering back to his car and the bird effects during the subsequent dissolve. But it has Johnny's full "foot" line (which wasn't on the MGM Blu-ray's mono).
However, I think both Johnny's line and those sound effects were on the UK DVD from Warner."

Summing it up:
I checked my old, nineties VHS of "Mad Max 1", featuring the original mono audio track redubbed in Italian. As comparison.
Well, guys, the added effects of the DVDs are not there.
BOTTOM LINE:
1- The aussie mono track featured on the MAD MAX UHD disc is proper and legit, original, as it was conceived in 1977-1979.
2- The transfer of the movie is excellent and gorgeous on the MAD MAX UHD disc. No errors or flaws.
3- The "dropped frames" at the 5:04-5:05 mark is the way the movie always looked like since its inception (1979). So don't worry, the MAD MAX UHD disc is very faithful to the original presentation of the movie, the way it was edited by George Miller in 1977-1979.

Spaceman Doug from blu-ray.com forum:
I managed to locate a 1985 Australian broadcast of this movie which obviously utilizes the original mix, and guess what?
turns out we were right all along, all of the sound effects that people claim are missing were never there to begin with and here's actual visual proof of it, I posted a few samples from this broadcast in this video, the first clip is to show it's from a TV broadcast (yes the Superman theme was in the recording added by the station who aired this) and the last clip I put to prove that this recording does in fact have the original Aussie dialogue
but here I hope you enjoy this sample video I put together, I did no editing whatsoever to these clips (I even left it in its PAL speed up) other than putting them together in this video just to try to prove things further that Kino's 4K release does in fact have the proper mono track

From the professional review of the blu-ray.com website:
Do you confirm this?
???I don't know precisely what was done and I do not want to speculate, but the film looks unnaturally cool, at times even cold, and it is very easy to tell that its current appearance isn't its natural appearance.
Do you confirm this?
