Bart Mangrum's Replica

Post by Peter Barton »

Bart, I was just cleaning up in the fan cars section, and saw your "work in progress" still in there. What's the deal - are you still building this, or was it abandoned long ago? The stuff I have seems a bit oer a year old now!

Come on, just go out and buy a proper XB, you know you want to...

Aww. Image

Sorry to hear the old AMC, bought the farm, Bart.

I hate to see the old beasties being scrapped.

I suppose this is a fitting place to announce a change in plans for MY project car.

(Not really an Interceptor replica, but definately INSPIRED by)

As some of you may recall, I've been hunting for just the right car for my project.

Was after a Fox chassis Mustang, or preferably Capri.

Well, it seems the RIGHT car has been under my nose this whole time.

I was in the storage shed at my folk's house over the Thanksgiving weekend, and nestled claustrophobically behind the boat, camper, Buick, Charger & Riding Lawnmower sits a vehicle that strongly resembles http://www.javelinamx.com/JavHome/uncar/jav13a.jpg machine.

A 1973 AMC Javelin. Equipped with a rebuilt 360 4 barrel V-8.

There's lots of work to be done before I can think about further mods... but rest assured, I have PLANS.

Foxtrot, that would look awesome if you made it into a "one of the other guys" type Pursuit Special. If you can still find the Mark Donahue boot/trunk spoiler and the stock roof spoiler, put those on. I wonder if a concorde nose would fit? You can also pick up a Baldwin Motion Camaro hood scoop and a glass Mach I hood for nearly nothing through (dare I say this) J.C. Whitney and graft those on the stock hood. Just a couple of ideas...

Thanks for the ideas, Bronze..

I had originally planned a Big Block Corvette style scoop, such as Item C on http://www.jcwhitney.com/product.jhtml? ... 09&BQ=jcw2 of JC Whitney's Online catalog.

Later, I'd decided the double scoop look on some of the earlier Javelins would be the thing.

Another idea, though a bit harder to do would be a scoop like http://www.JavelinAMX.com/JavHome/uncar/68hyb.jpg.

My currant idea is the Shaker scoop off of a '70 Ford Torino, like the one on this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... 1874092046

I've also always liked the look of the side pipes/Zoomies on the Black on Black, so I would not be opposed to something like that. At the VERY least, a single pipe exiting just in front of the rear wheels on both sides. I'd prefer FOUR.

The car already has chrome eight spoke Steel rims, very similar to the MFP cars' and the AMX rear spoiler. The roofline on these is molded into a small spoiler anyway, so an enterprising body man wouldn't have much difficulty exagerating that an extra inch or two.Image

But I'll probably leave that the way it is. If I ever ran across a Breedlove roof spoiler, however....

There's several on eBay right now. Image

Been fiddling around with some pictures, envisioning what I want to do the the ol' beast.

Gonna do one with Falcon quarter flutes.

Did one with Falcon XC Headlamps (Pasted from a pic of George Kritty's car), and one with a Monza nose..

Say, on the subject of George's car, is the "Red XA/Bat car" that was at Back to the Max George's?? I hadn't read anythign about it, so I'm informationless.

Certainly LOOKS like the same car, with the Bat Car stuff just kinda tacked on..

Whoops!! Sorry. Don't know many details about the Aussie vehicles.

Got to be the same car.

Same stance, same rims same EA lamps.

Silly question to begin with.

Was poking around the net a bit & found a few vendors that carry not only repro parts, but some aftermarket performance gear that I'd never even GUESSED existed.

Poly Bushings, a Coil-Over suspension kit and a Rear Disc Brake Kit.Image

Even a repro AMX Front spoiler. (No Breedlove spoiler yet)

This is getting better & better all the timeImage
