Transavia PL-12
I know this argument could have been lifted up here many times but...
Can a Transavia PL-12 truly carry so many people?
I mean:
Jedediah The Pilot
Pig Killer
Savannah Nix
Master/Little Man
Cusha The Pregnant Girl
Tubba Tyntie
Scrooloose
Mr. Skyfish
Anna Goanna
Jedediah Jr.
Eddie
What do you think?
My theory: winds are much more powerful in the Wasteland, and the engine has been modified by Jedediah.

If you look at the specifications here you will see it has a cargo capacity of 910Kg. Those 11 persons do not weigh that much together. Some of them are even children who don't weigh that much.
But the "overloaded" statement by Jebediah could be correct at the first take-off attempt with also Max and the cargo still on board.

"UNDERSTEER" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"OVERSTEER" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"HORSEPOWER" is how fast you hit the fence.
"TORQUE" is how far you take the fence with you.

Sorry to hijack your thread Uncle....
What I’d like to know is when the Airtruk is Sydney bound we see it hit a dust storm. I always wondered is the dust storm real, if so was it just fortunate timing it occurred when Thunderdome was being made? Or was it all done via special effects?

That dust storm was very real. And it was very fortunate timing as there was no mention of a dust storm occurring in the original script. The filming crew was just lucky, they took the opportunity and flew into the storm for the epic shot that we can see in the movie. Fun fact - that dust storm was pretty epic and was documented in Coober Pedy Times. To this day you can buy postcards with that dust storm at Coober Pedy.

Thanks Taipan, thats that mystery solved.
It is a fantastic shot and adds to the end scenes of Thunderdome, it really was a case of right time right place. I sometimes think Fury Roads dust/electical storm is a nod to Thunderdome’s storm.
I don't suppose you have any other Thunderdome gems up your sleeve?
I’ve often wondered the following:
Why didn't Jedediah fly the Airtruk back to see if Max was alive after his showdown with Auntie?
How far did the Airtruk have to fly to reach Sydney, did they have enough fuel for the journey etc
Was the dust cloud covering Sydney?
Did they all survive the flight?
How many years in the future was Savannah’s “Tell” at the end, did Scrooloose father a child with her?
Knowing that George Miller goes into so much detail when developing characters and background stories, I am hoping someone has these extra details to help flesh out the Thunderdome world and story.

Unfortunately I don't have much backstory material for Thunderdome, it's the only one out of the entire series that's very difficult to find that kind of stuff.
I tried contacting Ed Verraux who did storyboards and concept art but to no avail, same with Terry Hayes, and those are the people that could give answers to those questions.
But regarding Beyond Thunderdome and Fury Road, there's a cool little piece of trivia which you may or may not know about:
According to Mark Sexton the kids living in bombed out Sydney work with the Buzzards. They lure people in with their lights to Sydney and the Buzzards catch those people.
It's like a form of trade or protection deal or something.

Thanks Taipan, so potentially the Buzzards had been thought about prior to Fury Road? Or George Miller thought about Thunderdome’s ending and felt it would be a nice tie in.
I have to say you know your stuff and have some great contacts within Mad Max film series....keep up the excellent work

No, I don't think Miller wanted to include anything from Fury Road in Beyond Thunderdome at the time he made MMBT.SCREWLOOSE wrote:Thanks Taipan, so potentially the Buzzards had been thought about prior to Fury Road? He retroactively tried to tie the two in (either him or Sexton). There's also another connection between MMBT and Fury Road that was retroactively put in Thunderdome.
And it's the fact that Max was transporting parts for his new Interceptor in the back of the Camel Wagon around the time of Beyond Thunderdome. But I think that was Sexton's idea.

Re: Transavia PL-12
Love the idea Max was transporting Interceptor parts in the Camel Wagon..Was this touched upon in the comic series prior to Fury Road? I would need to dig the comics out from the attic to familiarise myself with them.
Personally I really like the Camel Wagon, how its looks, its functionality and the noise it makes as it roars past the Airtruk towards Auntie and her oncoming posse. However I was not a fan of George Miller’s intention to make a Thunderdome style “Razor Cola” as you showed in one of your videos...out of interest was that the same vehicle with a kit installed or a secondary vehicle that had been made and then repurposed for the end chase scene when the idea was scrapped.
One more question and I promise to shut up...The book “The Art of Mad Max Fury Road” shows the Rotar Riders concept idea...basically a helicopter style apparatus strapped to a persons back. Did George Miller ever have any intention to try incorporate this into the film or was it always conceptual?
