A passing thought about Rock Rider stunts

Post by Turbofurball »

Most of the bikes used for the Rock Riders were Yamaha 450s, ideally suited to the sort of stunt work we got to see in the film. However, in amongst them was a Gasgas TXT Pro - a trials bike. Unlike the Yams the TXT Pro is a high maintenance machine that would have been a PITA to keep running in the dessert.

When the list of vehicles was first published here I didn't think much about it, but now I'm wondering if some trials-style stunts were originally envisaged, otherwise why would they have had it?

In other news, about a month back I bought a TXT Pro, and they're a ton of fun :)

I think the reason they would have them was just that they were perfect to maneuver in that kind of terrain. Not sure if they were supposed to have any stunts, but to me trials bikes were right on the money for the Rock Riders.

This is an impressive observation.

There's the possibility that the production crew had a trial bike in there just in case some trial style stunts were required. The decision to keep all the stunts high-paced may have come later in development.

Or they just had a GasGas kicking around.

The more I hear and see about early drafts the happier I am it took so long to make so we didn't get a bunch of horses trying to chase down the War Rig.

Interesting, I did not know that about the horses ... it could have worked but wouldn't have really fitted with the apparent theme of there being no large animals (presumably all eaten long ago)

And yes, a trials bike would be ideal for physically traversing that terrain, however for realism that would have probably translated into an older aircooled bike that doesn't need it's air cleaner to be re-oiled after every day of use, lol

I think a load of horses interjecting into the mix could have looked beautiful and been incredibly powerful. Still very hard to do that even with today's technology though. I'd rather no horses than unrealistic ones. Some of the car scenes were unrealistic looking enough.

Miller probably didn't want it to feel like a western, since it'd be easy to draw that comparison once you add horses. :geek:

In that case, I wonder what the deal between them and Furiosa would have been for.

I think the use of those bikes fitted into the bare bones look of the Rock Rider bikes also in one behind the scenes scene you see a guy ride on off a cliff into a net so a lightweight bike like that would have been preferable so yeh there were plenty of stunts that required that type of bike
