Just a passing thought about the feral kid
Just a passing thought about the feral kid
Hi
I'm more of a casual Mad Max fan and I was wondering if anyone had given thought as to how much the movie would have been different, even if not better, had the feral kid been a girl?

umm, na i don't think it would have made any difference, mate.
Male or Female, at that age, they still would have been feral and still would have cleaved heads apart with a boomerang.
Look at Warrior woman - The sex of a person means nothing in that world, as long as you can fight.
There are exceptions, like the rape victim, but she was simply over run and that could have happened to Warrior woman too.
for that chick to volunteer to go out and look for a vehicle to haul the tanker too, she must have had some balls.
Then there's Gyro's girl, she just seems more feminine, simply because she's peaceful and a nurse.
The story couldn't change, just because one snarling kid was a female.

I'm sorry. I didn't mean to upset. I'm just interested in "roads not taken" and i was just watching Emil Minty in that "Top Kid" episode thingy he did.
Re: Just a passing thought about the feral kid
It's alright, it's just that after the release of Fury Road, the insanity of online feminism creeped into Mad Max too, to a point where it feels like trolling now.

Re: Just a passing thought about the feral kid
the thing is, gender isnt an issue with max movies.
it takes weirdos with no real investment in the movies to come up with bullshit theories they're some third wave feminist social justice agenda.
gender roles of lead females in these movies have class to them. like entity, or warrior woman, or jesse, or the girl that rambled from the crack of the world. they arent just gender swapped for the sake of gender swapping and appeasing a small group of people that barely ever put their money where their mouth is.
warrior woman coulda been a man - no difference.
feral kid coulda been a girl - no difference.
golden boy coulda been a girl - no difference.
wez coulda been a woman - no difference.
goose coulda been a woman - no difference.
papa gallo coulda been a woman - do you get the drift?
it means fuck all in this world.

Re: Just a passing thought about the feral kid
the REAL passing thought of "what if this character was this gender instead at it's inception" conceit is...
YOU WOULDNT KNOW ANY DIFFERENT.
if the story was created with this character is a little boy with a boomerang, that is exactly what the character is. i will never understand this new popularity of changing gender and ethnic roles of characters that already exist other than for the sake of doing it. you concieve a character, they are the character. you do not change them. you create more characters instead.
ask yourself "what if i was born a different gender?" can you honestly, find reasonable conclusions to that question? No. you cant figure anything out - outside of your own bias based on your entire life experiences, your bias based on your views on gender, your own bias. You can not fairly answer that question.
it's an intellectually bankrupt notion to change an existing characer's gender and ethnicity with out reason (or it in their inception if you are not the creator) or ask these dumb ass questions.

^This. A screenwriter creates a character, a producer/director helps develop that character, an actor brings further dimension to that character and then it all becomes realised during shooting.themanw/oaname wrote:you conceive a character
Swapping genders in a creative piece of fiction isn't the same as going back in time and swapping someone's gender at birth. Fiction isn't subject to real-world factors, just the writer's interpretation of them.
The Feral kid is a thematic device that contrasts Curmudgeon. One is the civilised generation passing and the other is the feral generation emerging. Their gender is irrelevant to the story.
"Wrong, we fight for a belief. I stay."
Re: Just a passing thought about the feral kid
You're right.
It's like asking "what if Hitler had been born a girl?"
Until recently, the genders were treated so differently that history wouldn't hear of the alt-girl. Hitler as a girl would probably have been treated a bit better by family and married a nice boy from the next valley.
