I always thought the car looked a lot like the Opel Manta. I owned a 1978 Opel Manta GTE in the early 80's while in Germany. The body style is very close in appearance. Plus the 4cyl FI engine delivered a lot of power off the line, along with cruising speeds of 120-130 mph taching at 5500rpm, & red lining at 6500rpm. What a cool & fantastic car that was.

On a side related note, the GSE front end of the Manta mkII is very similar to the BoB front end. If you guys didnt know it already.

The Mk1 Manta was a proper mini musclecar, but more closely related to the Knight Rider's car at the start of MM1 ... the Vauxhall Firenza, however, is a cousin to the Manta that looks a little more like the BoB at the front ...



At one point I used to have a '75 Vauxhall Chevette, and I always thought they looked a teensy bit BoB-ish too (I totally painted it black with a roller too, lol)

Im assuming we are talking about MM1, in any case i have no idea how you can compare a small 4 cyclinder euro car (of any kind) to be similar to a family sized Australian built Falcon or Monaro??
Bit lost here how anyone can draw a parallel.

Similar lines and styling.

I can see some lines in common with the Monaro and the front bumper and light arrangement is rather similar to the Arcadipane nose.

Not everyone can afford a V8, so you make do with the closest looking thing you can find ... also, Falcons are a bit big for many European roads - I ran a '72 Dodge Charger for a few years, which is only slightly bigger, and it was a total pain in the backside.

Careful there....an Opel can be a force to reckon with. The Monaro/Commodore series owes a lot to the Opel Commodore and Diplomat for styling and probably for engineering. In fact, that 'small 4 cylinder' in the Manta was enlarged by 2 cylinders and later had twin turbos. This was enough to make the early 90's Lotus Opel Omega (or Lotus Vauxhall Carlton) the fastest factory production four doors in the world (0-60 and top end) for a very long time.

I think you mean the Manta B looks like Knightriders car. For 7 years I drove a Manta A. One of the most fun to drive cars I've had. Have another in the garage right now awaiting resurrection along with lots of Opel/Vauxhall parts.

You'll have to forgive people if they cringe at the word Chevette. The version we got here was gutless and was either the four door hatch or the two door hatch. I really wish we had gotten the Kadett C GTE, the nice little fastback body (although that did sell the bodystyle here as the also gutless Buick Opel by Isuzu (it's complicated), but the same all Japanese running gear.
