Why? Both tumblr feminists, SJWs and MRAs tried to use this movie for their agenda, trying to make it political and sucking all fun from watching it. On one side you have those SJWs hailing it as some kind of a 'cultural shift' in movie making, on the other you have MRAs yapping about how opressed men were in that universe and in the middle there's Miller who created this world where it doesn't matter if you're male or female, all it matters is if you're capable of survival and both sexes are. And it's not anything new either in MM movies, sexes are interchangeable in it and it's been like that since the beginning.

All of sudden you get this wave of professionally offended keyboard warriors deciding for us all if the movie is culturally appropriate or not. They can all piss off for all I care and their bickering should definitely NOT influence the production of the next Mad Max movie.

Oh, and one last but probably the most important thing. The groups that I mentioned above are extreme examples and are very vocal about their idiocy online, and unfortunately those same idiots took over the discussion about gender issues in Fury Road. I don't want THOSE people having any say in the production of the next MM movie. The fundamentals of real feminism are in equality and in that respect Miller does an A+ job at portraying it in MM movies. He doesn't need any advice from kids. Although he did bring in Eve Ensler, the playwright behind the Vagina Monologues, to work with the actresses on their characters. But she's faaaaar from those mouthbreathing morons discussing gender issues everywhere right now. That kind of help I can understand. In effect, Fury Road's 'feminism' isn't in your face contrary to what those groups I mentioned would want/not want. I think I expressed my view on this matter sufficiently and probably won't even go into discussing it any more because it's a fucking minefield in this day and age. Did I mention that I hate SJWs and MRAs? ;)

People who can't stop yapping about feminism online these days are driving me nuts, it was the same with atheism a few years ago until everyone got sick of it.
Money speaks. If FR makes enough, there will be a sequel. The stories are already written and people complaining about Max 'manspreading' in his car don't have any say in this matter.

I actually think he purposely cast a lot of females in the movie to draw a wider audience because females represent 51% of the population and the Mad Max movies have always been mainly a guys movie.
I like to read peoples responses to the movie and the amount of females who actually say they love the movie and have seen it multiple times is very cool indeed.
This movie has it all , nonstop car action for the boys and cool chicks for the girls , this thing has legs and has been cleverly crafted - genius Dr Miller is no understatement 8-)

I don't recall anyone dissecting Terminator or Aliens as 'feminist' because the female lead is just as strong a character as the male leads.

I strongly agree with Taipan about Social Justice Warriors- they are ruining logical debate and reduce everything to class, race, and gender warfare,

has anyone noticed that the men were also oppressed and abused, seems to me like the wasteland is an equal opportunity oppressor!

and if anyone really wants to worry about feminist rights why are you concerned about a movie when little girls who try to go to school are being shot in the face in Afghanistan.

When I posted this I was a bit concerned it might not go well, not so much that it would start fights but moreso perhaps selfishly that someone would think I was arguing against the supposed pro-feminist elements in the movie :). Maybe that hasn't happened to me, but with comments about feeling ashamed of the community and such, well it might be happening to others and that makes me kinda regret making the post. Sorry.

Being too late, I at least want to re-iterate my points and maybe we can narrow the focus. I'm not implying any ownership of the discussion though, so if not that's fine with me too.

It is already an established fact that many people are applauding this movie as a kind of win for feminism or a great step for the movie industry in portraying females in a (to put it simply) better way. I wasn't thinking about a discussion of whether those people are "right" or "wrong", what their motivations might be, etc.

My only concern was whether or not, or to what extent, Miller/WB/actors/etc., anyone involved in future Mad Max movies, might feel pressured to ensure those future installments receive similar applause.

Could it affect new stories? Could it push them to go with the supposed already completed Furiosa movie instead of another option? And so on, those kinds of questions. I know many will say that Miller would probably not allow that to happen, but we can also add to this discussion the already existing speculations about how involved me may or may not be in future movies. You know, due to age, or whatever.

Oh and I should add, of course on the other side we have, I guess what you are calling MRAs, attacking the movie. However at this time in popular opinion they are pretty much considered the "bad guys" and I don't see that changing much in the future. So, I don't feel anyone from their side will be able affect any future movies in any way they would want. In fact, they will probably have an effect opposite of what they want, actually helping their opponents.

I take offense to people taking offense to your non offensive statements :D

I am not mad just over dramatic

seriously though the thought that GM would include any social message is not troubling, but if he were pressured to alter his vision to conform to some version of political correctness that would be very bad.

Sorry to get my manties in a twist.

Read one too many timeline posts yesterday and then a few trigger words in this discussion pushed me over the edge.

I'm not going to debate them. I'm going to take a chill pill and an extended timeout.

In answer the original question, yes the pressure will be enormous and sadly a sideways move will be seen as a backward one. The world is strange like that. But Miller always represents and the right people know that.
