Coma, the Doof Warrior costume

Post by Scapey »

So I was DJing at a Cosplay Lipsynch Battle night last Friday... Decided to do Coma as my own outfit :)

Got really lucky and found a friend who actually had a Union Suit :D
So blagged that from him, cut the cuffs off, as well as one leg, and stretched the sleeves and remaining leg material out.

I cut the excess fabric into strips, and weathered the whole thing with maroon spraypaint, as well as some black and grey.

The mask is the front from a foam/rubber skull ( Actually used in the film "Doomsday" ), that I stuck to the front of a mannequin's head, and wrapped in latex-soaked 15-denier tights, that I'd cut into strips about an inch wide by about 8 inches long, but with every 4 or 5 strips still joined at one end ( If that makes sense? ) to make the kinda "dreadlocks" at the back.

Not got many pics yet, I'll get more up later, but here's a good one from the dancefloor when I snuck down to dance to Supercharger Heaven by White Zombie :)
( The guitar, I plan to completely rework for the summer convention season... And hopefully I can find an actual bedpan, as the toilet seat is too big. did the job though, I reckon! )

Here, BTW, is a really good shot of Coma's mask - Which, of course, I found AFTER making the bloody thing!
Pretty pleased at how mine came out though, having not had any decent reference pics!

It might help that the Doof Warrior's mask is made of his own mother's face that he cut off, to channel her pain while playing (or something akin to that). In fact most of the leather you see on marauders in FR is supposed to be made of human skin.

Yup - And nylon soaked in latex makes great leathery skin once dry :)
Going by the ref pic, the FX guys used similar methods to me, with whatever they actually used for skin stretched over a skull form.

I tried to find it but can't remember where I read it. But I remember I read somewhere that it was goatskin they used. It has about the same characteristics as human skin.
"UNDERSTEER" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"OVERSTEER" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"HORSEPOWER" is how fast you hit the fence.
"TORQUE" is how far you take the fence with you.

Oh yeah I remember that too! I think it was mentioned in one of the interviews with costume designers, it's probably in the interviews thread somewhere.
