How much rust is TOO much?

Hmm, I look at it differently. To me a van is a truck frame with a box on it. Econoline, etc.

Phil and Wrinkles, thanx for the background info and leads for parts. Now I can proudly state that I know something about my Falcon and John Goss. I like the whole underdog story.

Four door cars can be cool, too. Look at the '94-'96 Impala SS. Love the tag line. "Lord Vader, your car has arrived."

But even if a four door is "cool", its not as cool as it would be with just two.

I heard that they were bringing the Sandman back into large scale production since it was so reliable. "The Sandman is easily started, but they'll soon return, and in greater numbers." Sorry. Really.

Hello everyone. Thought I would finally join the discussions. I perfectly understand the concerns with rust in the Falcons, Mustangs, Torino's, etc. I am currently attempting to restore a very rusty 71 Ranchero GT factory 351 shaker car. Its been pretty tough but not insurmountable. I probably wouldnt do it except according to the Ford production rep (Marti Auto Works) they only made 52 of them!

The Goss car in question is a very rough car, no question about it. We bought the car and several others based on requests from people in the USA that wanted cheap XB coupes and werent afraid of the work it would take to repair a rusty or damaged car. Well, after I got the cars those people evaporated without even seeing pics of the cars. In other words, they were pulling my chain! I try and disclose any known problems to a potential buyer and always recommend please come see it first! One of those cars is Adrian Bennets car (England). I am amazed at what he has done to that car in the time he has had it! Great job Adrian. And to answer another question, when our cars arrive they are all stored inside my shop or Troys shop. No cars are left outside to promote any further possible damage.

I have been dissapointed in some of the cars we have received and more than pleased with others. Since we have brought in the majority of the cars in the USA I hope more people are satisified than not. Well, I'll quite rambling on here!! Please, this is not an advertisement, just an explanation why the Goss car and other rough and/or rusty cars were here in the first place. By the way, unless someone specifically wants a specific rough or rusty car I wont help them bring in any more to the USA. As usual, great site Peter.

There are just as many rust buckets here also Terry. Man of the owners try every trick in the book to hide the rust, whilst I am sure everyone has a rust story my favourite was the xb I took for a drive and when I rested my foot next to the clutch pedal it went through the floor. The huge hole was covered with a special cut mat......tricky.

We call those "Flintstone mobiles". haha. My brother looked at a 67 Mustang convetible last week that was "rust free". We took it to the high school where he is a teacher and put it on a lift in the shop. The carpet was exposed on the passenger rear and driver front floorboards!

Nothing like the feeling of speed as you see the road go whizzing by inches from your feet. Feel the wind in your hair as you catch the breeze from the floorboards!

Try sandblasting a quarter panel that you think is solid metal only to have it disintegrate into bondo powder.

BTW, just saw an advert for a Ram Air setup for XB's! Functional go-fast stuff!

According to some sources, there are 40-60 Australian cars here in the US. Anybody know what the breakdown is according to type?

I just spent an hour or so flicking through old copies of Sports Car World' doing some research ... Australias answer to 'Road & Track' that was published from '56 to the mid eighties ... and Lo and behold I find that among my swap copies I have two spare December 1975 issues which contains a contemporary review of the John Goss Special!

The second spare is also up for grabs ... what do I need with three copies.

Much obliged sir! Will send address ASAP. Now I wish I had TWO Falcons so I could keep one stock AND have an Interceptor. Oh well, there's always the lottery.
