Weird Landau engine setup
Heh heh heh,
good point about the boy racers, same sh*t happens here.
Just another turbo note. I just sold my hilux 4wd that had a twin turbo 6 cyl supra engine in it and i had it as a suck through system running straight lpg from an impco gas converter mounted before the throttle body, thus the gas went through both turbos and never had a problem. I have had both exhaust sides glowing red but it still did not affect performance much. The turbos were also watercooled.
I've also played with turbo/nitrous bikes( gsxr 1000,cbr900rr) but that's another story in itself

Weird Landau engine setup
"The Fast and Furious films have triggered a whole new generation of boy racers into believing that fancy paint jobs and loud speakers in the boot would get thier shagged out Ford Fietsas going faster than 90mph "
I've watched 'em pull up near a bus-stop 'cause there's a hot looking girl there (they want to impress) they get out give passers by 'hard looks',.. talk loud, give a few rediculous handshakes....but they're too cowardly to go over to the girl and talk to her or offer her a lift.
so they carry on with this performance till the bus arrives, she gets on and they drive off...what a bunch of w**kers!...I doubt any of 'em could pull a spanner on their own car! They're probably too embarressed to pull up right in front of a bus-stop full of people in their mum's 'pimped' shopping trolley.
If they want to impress..have the balls to pull up right in front of the girl....single her out in front of the crowd at the bus-stop (with "hi, gorgeous") and ask her if she'd like a lift!!!!...Even if she tells you to f@#k -off..at least you've made her feel 'special'....and really isn't that all women want!..?

They probably saw some old VW powered Dune Buggy and got the idea for the webers

Some dune buggy I found with a carb turbo setup.

Re: Weird Landau engine setup
Sorry for digging up an old topic, but...
Dear gear heads of MMForums. I believe this setup would in fact work. It is nothing short of a draw through turbocharger setup (i.e. carb before compression) that's been used since the 60s. The fuel-air mixture wouldn't ignite because both fuel and (non filtered) air are cold and the turbo itself wouldn't heat up enough to ignite the mixture. Furthermore, setups like this were equipped with additional methanol injection lines to cool down the mixture.
Also real draw through setups used existing oil lines to lubricate the turbos to prevent them from heating up and the throttle was controlled directly from the carburetors so there wasn't a throttle body on the engine itself.
Of course the movie setup was bare-bones (no throttle control, no oil lines) and wasn't functional. But it seems with a couple of real life tweaks it would work!
Your thoughts?

I don't have an engineering back ground but what your saying sounds legit .the only thing I can see with laymans eyes is you wouldn't be able to open the bonnet

Yes agree it would work (unlike a on/off blower... cough cough). But you would need to cut a bigger hole in the bonnet !mahenoguy wrote:I don't have an engineering back ground but what your saying sounds legit .the only thing I can see with laymans eyes is you wouldn't be able to open the bonnet
We are 100% snafu....

Haha, nothing that an angle grinder can't fix! It's funny how all those years I thought this kind of setup (and the one on the Torana) was absolute nonsense until I looked it up and now it turns out it's way more plausible than the BoB's on/off supercharger itself! Here's to hoping someone makes a replica with a fully functional setup like in the movie, that would be really awesome.roadwarriormfp wrote:you would need to cut a bigger hole in the bonnet !
