Making a gun is simple. Some guy pounded a shovel into an AK. My question is ammo. The chineses had resources. They also didn't use self contained ammo, which requires primers. Do those resources exist in MM4 world?

Yes.

Re: Plusability of MM & MM2 verses Fury Road
I just watched the trailer again, and there aint even that much gun play in it it.
2 shot of Max shooting, one with the glock where he shoots twice, then once with a riffle and he lets off a single shot.
Another with the warriror woman and she shoots a rifle once.
There is the shot with the bullet farmer but it doesnt look like he is even shooting the guns just holding them up for show.

Humongous used his bullets when he felt the expendature of ammo was worth what he would gain from it. I believe that concept will be carried over into Fury Road.
Bullet Farmer - it sounds like he has literally dug them up some where. Did he find an armory or a gun store? Possibly reloading equipment and supplies. Every person I know that reloads has quite a stockpile of supplies, although they would be finite. Even a retail supply would have it's limits. The fact that it is one man with the resources and the knowledge confirms the axiom - knowledge is power. Having the knowin' of bullets would make someone very powerful.

It's just the winner takes all concept extended over a much long period than Road Warrior. Those with a few guns fight to become those with the most guns and eventually become those with all the guns. Same goes for car parts and fuel.
And it wont be explained in any detail. Just like the rocket car wasn't explained in Mad Max, the compound dweller's explosives in Road Warrior, or pretty much everything in Thunderdome.
The model to take from in real life is insurgent forces in decaying societies, and the evidence makes Fury Road look tame in regards to gun play.
It's Miller's world, if he wants his gangs to be ex-military, armed by political unrest, or just have access to a stockpile, he can.
I'm pretty sure most of us know where firearms could be obtained, even in the UK. Now consider the motivation of those that become desperate.

Given that Fury Road is set in Australia, and the discussion has turned to guns, here are some interesting links

All good points and I can accept it. More plausible in the USA where nearly every home has guns, ammunition, and a fair percentage of gun enthusiasts and hunters have reloading gear and knowledge. While there are anecdotal evidence of guns/ammo/knowledge in Australia, it would be much less. But Australia does have armed police and military, so it would make sense that some guns/ammo are available and they have an indefinite shelf life. I suppose a post apocalypse movie set in the USA would involve much more gunplay, which is one of the reasons the original MM movies are so great..... Miller/Kennedy replaced guns with cars.MWFV8 wrote:It's just the winner takes all concept extended over a much long period than Road Warrior. Yes, the ammo in MM2 was definitely conserved as one might expect ... It was not in MM3 which contributed to the silliness. I hope that the gunplay in MM4 is limited like MM2 and not represented like we saw in Water World...

Re: Plusability of MM & MM2 verses Fury Road
Going on the trailer alone, it appears that there will be some gunfire, and an interesting number of explosive devices.
The War Boys, and other gangs appear to be using some sort of explosive tipped javelins, some have been calling them "boom sticks". (I still can't type or say that without flashing back to Ash and Army of Darkness.) This may be evidence that somebody out there knows how to make gunpowder, and has devised an interesting means of delivering it on target.
As far as plausibility is concerned, this is where good directing, pacing, story telling, etc is key. The best can pull a fast one, and and nobody will even think to question it until after the credits roll, if even then. Best example to come to mind is in Raiders of the Lost Ark, the U-Boat, and where the f**k was Indy hiding while the sub was map travelling to the Island.
As for realism, there's a good reason why there haven't been many clones and rip-offs of "The Road".

That may be true, but the real task is to get the mix in perfect ratio and pure enough to be viable. it's taken mankind 500 years to make it reliable and powerful. Mythbusters struggled with their piss-poor attempt at making rudimentary gun powder from raw ingredients.Taipan wrote:Gunpowder can literally be made from piss, charcoal and mined sulfur.

The exact point I was trying to make, made quite well. Thank you. And no mention of primers... bullets don't work without them.aussie muscle wrote:That may be true, but the real task is to get the mix in perfect ratio and pure enough to be viable. it's taken mankind 500 years to make it reliable and powerful.
