So Max's rig over the jacket was actually a backpack? Looks like Nux has similar body markings and scarring like some of the enemies seen in the videogame further cementing the connection between the two.

Agreed. I wonder how much are touched up via CGI? The shots of Hardy jumping off with the explosion and Max, obviously a stunt actor, on the front Nux's car.

EW also has a couple of storyboard art for when Max is chained to the car too.

Interesting. Looking closer and the first photo looks like Nux is wearing Max's jacket and wielding the sawn-off, you can also see tubes around his wrists with blood flowing that go outside of the car to run along chains....

The second photo looks to be connected as it's Max without his jacket chained or tied to the front of Nux's car with the before mentioned chain connecting to him.
