Excellent analysis.

So when the two bikers in MM go into the river, their fires are extinguished? :)

^LOL, but true ;)
Isn't it possible that the fourth film is about water, and taht the combining factor is Max's spirit (the fifht element? -insert big-badaboom-joke here :P)
I mean Max's spirit can live on without him too, and 20-30 years after the apocalypse, isn't it about time to fight about water insted of fuel and gasoline? Or even the return to the seasides as they speak about in RW (btw, did you consider teh use of the methane gas as a form of air in BTD?)

That's an excellent theory.

If late rumours on 'Fury Road' are true, the saga restarts. So don't bother about water, it's gonna restart with Hardy picking up from Thunderdome or The Road Warrior, but it's a parallel dimension in my mind.

Yeah, Max's spirit is the central focus of the old saga for sure.

Earth also represents growth "he learned to live again". Ashes create a good soil, so the order of movies and elements is quite fitting.
