Mad Max 4 - The Game (September 1st 2015 PS4, XB1, PC)
Re: Mad Max 4 - The Game
I know what it's like to get no reaction to work submitted here. I've been there myself.
And indeed trying to satisfy existing fan-bases often goes against capitalising on the existing franchise.
In the case of this game the developers have stated they don't care for the existing world of Mad Max, that's a brave and commercially respectable stance but that's why the fan-base clearly doesn't care much for the game. And as you say, it was on the back foot from the start because movie fans have learned not to hold out much optimism for movie based games.
And partly the issue is just how good a Mad Mad franchize game could be. Imagine starting out in the MFP headquarters, being able to tour round the underground parking. Taking part in training missions with characters like Roop and Goose. Tasks like pursuing fuel thieves in car chases on the highway, sniping marauders in the fields and chasing down troublemakers in town. Imagine you're completing a simple task and then you hear Nightrider screaming down the radio, it's the opening chase, you need to get to a location. Picture a mission where you chase down a hot black XB GT and tow it back to MFP. Then later you help seize a load of car parts and in those crates lies a cutting edge V8 and a supercharger. A few missions later and you're in a small town, black lines down the main street, nothing but the whistle of the wind and the aftermath of Toecutter's gang sprawled everywhere. Then later you move onto the desert highway, and then later into the desert itself. It could be amazing, it could be vivid and emotional, it could be a journey. Sadly no amount of car customisation, combat moves or sneak attacks is going to live up to something like that.

Re: Mad Max 4 - The Game
I'm not a gamer, at least not what is currently considered a gamer (if I don't have a pair of dice and a black box that says Steve Jackson, it's just not acceptable!). Most of what I see as far as game structure in modern video games leaves me cold and what you've described as a Mad Max game would have little appeal to the vast majority of gamers today. It really bothers me to hear movie scripts/structure/editing are being altered to fit the structure of game tie-ins. Even though games are touted as having more potential to explore aspects of a story line that a movie does not have time to, rarely does it seem to me to be anything other than more of the same game action, just a different setting. More running/driving, more shooting, more 'finding', not more story. Games may be better than they have ever been, but just as movies have never and can never be the same experience as a book, games will never rise above the simplistic (but exceptionally detailed) experience that they are unless the gamer attitude evolves.
I may be wrong on this. If I am, somebody please explain how.

I dropped Game Stop the other day and the sales clerk said the release date has been pushed to Sep, 2014 and that it very likely may change again.

Yeah, again I honestly expect it to release next April or May 2015 so they can coincide with the release with Fury Road.

If the American accents littered throughout the game trailers are any indication of the eventual movie then I'm out of Fury Road entirely. I have loved Mad Max since 1979. I can't bare the thought of a pale imitation.

with all due respect. 1. the game has had austrailian recasting since the trailers. 2. the movie has nothing to do with the game, this isn't the movie tie in game. 3. the movie is directed by George miller. 4. while chalize theoron is not australian I believe that our star Tom Hardy is at the very least Brittish and could conceieavbly, with training pull off a near perfect accent.banistersmind wrote:If the American accents littered throughout the game trailers are any indication of the eventual movie then I'm out of Fury Road entirely. so if this video game..which again HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE NEW MOVIE...turns you off the Fury Road then you have too high of standards. and I then have to doubt that any new movie would really please you. which then asks the question should any game studio or movie studio even try if it's going to be met with so much pre-hate based off such interesting standards? I know if I was a CEO I'd basically cancel my projects because this wouldn't make me think there is money in franchise.

Well guys, the site
http://madmaxgame.com/en/
is under construction. I saw a short trailer on Youtube and the games seems to be rather another Fallout game than a Mad Max game. Decide yourself.

I could probably make it on my own, but I like you kids.

Re: Mad Max 4 - The Game
I'm a big gamer and I've seen no information about the game that suggests it will satisfy a "Max need".
It looks far too arcadey - which can be good but it isn't what would interest me. I would suggest you check out or research Avalanche's previous titles to get a feel for what kind of games they produce. I'm not making a judgement on that because people want different things. Personally, I didn't enjoy Just Cause 1 or 2 and they look like they're using that kind of feel and a version of that game engine so I think I already know what kind of game it will be and I'll pass but you might enjoy
