The picture of Immortan Joe reminds me of a picture I saw years ago from rotten.com called "nothing gets between me and my Harley " . my sick sister sent it to me and I highly recommend you don't check it out , it is with me for life ! It was of a guy with very similar injuries who gone over the handle-bars with an open face helmet on . The worst thing was the poor guy was still alive leaning over a sink . As for gore in the original trilogy , The bloated truck guy and boomerang to the noggin were the two goriest things I had seen in an aussie flick up until then . The Eye bugging scene of Toe-cutter getting it was legendary at every school I ever went to , If you hadn't seen it , you were no-one . so I would say they were cutting edge gory for their time

Surprised Miller would go this route, yet here's visual evidence, and I don't think they would go through all that make-up trouble if they weren't going to use it in the film. I was in the firm belief that this was headed for a PG-13 rating. Now I'm not so sure.
The first two Mad Max movies were pretty gory by old standards, I mean... ripped off hand, burnt goose, bloated Mack truck driver, Toadie's fingers, Golden Boy's boomerang to the dome, Wez's arrow scene. I've always had the impression that Miller wanted to utilize his experience as an MD to throw in some realistically looking injuries, seems like he's at it again with Immortan Joe.
I disagree. I think one of the strengths of the Max films was the coldness of violence that came from a lack of blood splatter - which is what I think we refer to as gore. Road Warrior was violent but not gory and in the first film, the violence was almost entirely at a distance or left to the imagination through quick cuts. Neither film really peaks on a gore scale when you compare it to films that were released around that time; for example, Driller Killer or Evil Dead which were on the video nasty list.

I don't know why I keep making this association but I really think they're going for a Dredd (2012) style movie.

From what I've seen the " gore " level is on par with the first 3 movies , I'd rather call it " shocking violence " , heck it was the first movie where I seen " man rape " and that lady getting shot in the vagina with a crossbow was fairly startling :o
