The FX is indeed the one in your other photo, trying to slash the tyres. It does get covered in spikes before it appears in the film. The side air intakes are most likely for the REAL engine inside the war rig. It's a beast of an engine too - just not two supercharged V8s. As for the wobbling tank on the stripped interceptor - it's not even on the right side, so I guess the warboys have detached it. Another "blooper" tha...

What I thought about the plot was that it was pure B move. Take away the budget, and that would be exactly what you got. The action carried it.
