Re: Quo Vadis Mad Max?

I guess the difference is Miller can still make a good movie even when presented with large budget, more freedom and CGI, he still chooses to limit the unreality and keep the thing focused on motive and character and trim the fat. Miller understands how to make an audience care about a world where n...

Re: Quo Vadis Mad Max?

The burnout seems to be happening for a lot of people including me. Now the conversation among friends has shifted from "aren't Marvel/Bay movies great" to a morbid interest in "how much longer can they sustain this" (Although I never thought recent Bay movies were great, and rig...

Re: Quo Vadis Mad Max?

An action movie these days has to assault the senses or people won't call it an action movie. I understand why they had to dial it up. And some people still claimed Fury Road was dull and boring. It's just my personal preference with movies and I know those days are loooong gone. :) We'll always hav...

Re: Jodorowsky's Dune

Need to see this docu... been meaning to. I'll track it down as this thread just reminded me. The Dune movie's an oddity and a guilty pleasure for me. The book is great, but it didn't quite work as a movie to have all those internal monologues imo, but who knows how else that could have been done. T...

Re: Unnecessary war

Our governments don't "get" the Middle East. They seem to think you can whack the top dog or regime and those countries will immediately start thinking and operating like ours. After Iran, Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan and now Syria they still seem to think they can install some pro-Western gro...

Re: What 80's movies are better than Mad Max 2?

Most of the best has already been mentioned here and it's tough to think of movies better than Mad Max 2 because MM2 is right up there in my top 3, but some other contenders for me: Akira Gremlins Back to the Future Die hard Time Bandits Raiders of the Lost Ark Ghostbusters Evil Dead Poltergeist Wra...
