Russ; I used regular woven sheets. chopped strand is too difficult to get to conform to the curves and stay that way. I tried is a couple of times but it ends up being too thick and not flexible enough for the snaps to hold. You could pop rivet the thicker ones to your helmet but that is probably no...

Its actually fiberglass. I made it. It is as close to the original as I can make it. The pictures don't do it justice, apparently.

There is a face guard on sale at e-bay that is a replica of JIm Goose's. It is very accurate. Please check it out. I am not sure how to post links but if you search it using "Mad Max Helmet", you will find it.
