The Film was released in April '79 and Mad Max first commenced shooting on Monday, October 24th, 1977. The script no doubt existed for a year or two before shooting. So it's quite possible. Possible. I have a vague memory of it being in an interview with George Miller that was filmed where I worked....

I recall reading somewhere that one of the early working titles for MM1 was Heavy Metal.

Though what ... I think ... I saw was a black sail/rigging pulley on black mountaineering rope. Not weathered as you'd expect of a piece of prop rigging.
